this story is very upsetting to me because of the apperant lack of empathy of the officials in charge of this case, apparently the mother tried to treat her own daughter herself thinking that the flu-like symptomes were just another case of the flu the mother being a nurse should have made some difference in this case but she's being charged anyway, does the government have the right to blast this woman just for trying to take care of her own daughter??

I have to say, I somewhat surprised by this. It's not like the mother knew her child had meningitis and then decided home treatment. I have to agree, this is disturbing...

Not exactly a new trend, but definitely a disturbing one.

Remember the family who was indicted for their refusal to radiate their child?

And of course, if you refuse medication the schools can diagnose and medicate your child without your consent.

Children are property of the state in America. Get used to it - it's only going to get worse because the majority of people are weak, selfish, and stupid. It's going to get worse, and worse, and worse, until people change themselves for the better.

My only consolation is that parents are so miserable these days (not all, but enough to perpetuate the downward spiral), the state would have to try really hard to do a worse job of it.

For more outrages, good sir loam has this thread, chock-full of 'em.

still i think that there is no possible way they will get a conviction in this case, the charges are laughable and any jury in there right mind would not even consider throwing this poor lady in jail for this

I think the key words in this case are 'rare disease'. How could she possibly know she had meningitis if it acts like the flu?
