9LC,

There are those that are in the "Paranoid" side of life, those of us that are on the fine line of "Scitzophrenia" and those of us that would like some answer's to some very important and major question's. The thing of this fact is "We all want answer's and the only way to find them is to rely on ourselve's to find these 'ENLIGHTENED' point's.

As for these thing's "Not mattering", well, for me that is the credentials to quit wondering, do the 9 to 5, don't question anything that pop's up in life and never , never think there are any answer's to any of the question's that need's to be answered.

HMPH?

Why be on the ATS without the will to want to pick these thing's apart?

I'm sure this thread is going to provide you with a lot of "Why's" and very little "What for's".

the simplistic atitude of "not in my back yard" is not realistic

The existance of a sentient alien intelligence would rock the world we know - and if that alien intelligence was malevolent ?

Ronald Reagen actually posed this in a speach in I believe 1981 - could we see tomorrow in the same light ? would we unite against such a threat?

I offer no answers but i think the question is a bit deeper than a yes or no.

yeah i am not saying don't be interested in secrecy, i am saying don't let whatever you find out bring fear into your existance.

i am simply trying to comfort those who has gotten lost in this fear.

i think fear is the major reason why talking about other lifeforms and ufo's is avoided in the general public... some people rather not know because they fear fearing it.

Finding out that there really are intelligent ETs out there would be interesting, but it wouldn't change my life in any fundamental way. The most likely scenario would be one where we detect a signal and it will be several thousand light years away, at least, so the chances of interacting with them in any meaningful way would be very small. Nobody living on Earth would have a chance to travel to actually meet them. It would basically be an interesting anthropology project. And we all know how thrilling anthropology is.

Most people on Earth aren't interested in other cultures as it is. We don't care about what some Amazon tribe really has to say or offer. Aliens (unless they threatened to invade, or like in "Contact," broadcast diagrams for a communcation or travel device - like that would ever happen), would get the same treatment. They'd be a novelty for a while, then we'd settle in to looking down on them and laughing at them, and eventually we'd ignore them and maybe forget them.

Sorry, I fear an intelligent race that can freeze me in my sleep and cut me open like a scrod. I'm optimistic about first contact, but I think having no fear of the ETs, is letting our guard down, and possibly setting ourselves up like lambs for slaughter. There are an infinite number of possibilities of what might take place when ETs show themselves more openly (or we happen upon them), but some of them are clearly disasterous for us. It's hard not to fear a possible worst catastrophe in human history, it's just as likely as ETs giving us the formula for free energy, a meditation to meet God and become his/her best friend and giving us robots to do all the menial labor.

Those greys sure are cute little critters, those big black pretty insectoid eyes, and that flawless pale skin. Wish I had the luck of encountering one of those.

I think the biggest issue and the most traumatic change would be religious.

Think of it, every major religion - at least the Monotheistic ones - hold Mankind to be 'made in the image and likeness of God'. What a shock to the known reality of religious people would it be to find that Humanity is not the only thinking, feeling, powerful species. In the creation stories there is a certain distinctiveness about earth and God's creation on it. To know that there might be billions of these worlds would be a major change. To think that everything we thought of as special and uniqe is simply one of billions?

I wouldn't have a problem with knowing there were aliens - I would absolutly love to know for sure that there is more to the universe than this planet. It would give me more hope and comfort than anything I could think of, because it would make clear to me that we aren't destroying the only planet in the universe with life!

Yes I do why because IMHO I should not be here nor so all of you.

I think the main reason why we have not been treathen of a comet crashing to earth is because of them and god. In other they are protecting us except from ourselves.

If they came out and said, yes, aliens existed, and that they were malevolent or at least cold and distant from humans, I don't see how that would change my world. I already believe they exist.

Do I fear them? No. Just like I do not fear terrorism. Or bird flu. or anythign else cooked up to scare.

The only things I fear in life are to die without leaving some sort of legacy or project geared toward the future that will carry on beyond me.

Even death does not scare me. It actually intrigues me.

And alien existance if proved to be malevolent would not frighten me. It would intrigue me as well.

I guess it is just the explorer gene buried deep in my DNA. I care alot! I want to know what is out there when I look up at those little lights in the night sky. I want to know if we humans are alone in this extrordinarily large place called the universe and if so, why? If we aren't, then who/what else is out there and what are they like? Are the questions I ask myself everyday the same ones that a being millions of lightyears away asks and does he/she/it have an answer? I yearn to see things that I have never seen before I die or maybe I will find out that I don't have to die. Or maybe that since energy never dies, I will never die. A being from somewhere not of this planet would be the first step in answering some of these mysteries that have plagued me since I learned to ask questions. Oh I really do care! If I didn't, I wouldn't be here on ATS with you. Do you care? I mean really care??
As for the fear thing, no. I have had enough people pass around me to know that one day I will to go unless( see first paragraph ). I figure that when your time is up, you go. What's after that is another question to be answered.

my intentions were missinterpreted and im sure that's my fault seeing as how i am not english.... i will do my best to explain it here once and for all what i meant.

example, if you find out that aliens are here to screw us over do you care? there is no reason to care and no reason to fear, even if they are hostile why care? i see no reason to care for i have found what is needed to be found in my inerself and not in a religious sense....

in this ''reality'' anything is no different then everything.

Actually, if aliens were here to screw us over, I would think that everyone should care. I for one do not enjoy being a slave and would openly fight to protect myself from anyone or thing. Those who are afraid need not be for as I stated in my first response, everyone has a time to go. I personally do not believe that malevolent extraterrestials are here for the simple fact that if they really wanted to do us harm, their technology would be sufficient enough to do so. Think about it for a second. Beings with the ability to travel millions of miles and with vehicles millenia ahead of our own want to kill us but don't. That just doesn't make sense. I am not nor would I be afraid.

I remember having a dream a few years back. I was walking along the street, maybe just coming out of a store, and suddenly a kind of stereotypic flying saucer goes sailing by, in broad daylight. It wasn't big or impressive or threatening.

My first thought was how wonderful it was. They're real, and finally making themselves known!

Immediately after that, the thought changed to almost pure horror and I thought it was the worst thing that could possibly ever happen.

I'm along the same line as Skadi - It all intrigues me.

Corruption, Greed and all that fuel it - thats what I care about. This unfortunately will not change for some time I feel. And for this reason, should ET be hostile, well we friggen deserve everything we get. We can't and don't respect ourselves, our earth and all creature we co exist with on this planet - so how else should the human race be perceived?? We are hostile - period! We should be left alone to kill ourselves.... perhaps that is what is happening. Perhaps we need to evolve - if we get that chance so be it, either way it matters not for our short lifespans.

So I'm just another passenger / drone whatever, i make my small differences where I can, and help others as often as I can and do things that interest me.

exhibt A.

some of us ''humans'' chose to be pure and do not contribute to the corruption i know i don't, so it's not the entire race that needs to acheive peace but the majority of the people.
