ICE agents and local law enforcement today raided Dulles airport in an illegal immigrant crackdown. DC101 listeners call to alert Elliot in the morning to active crackdown that was taking place this morning in the DC area.

An immigration raid at Dulles International Airport resulted in about 50 arrests, Immigration and Customs Enforcement says.

Without specifying exactly what jobs the people hold, immigration officials say those arrested work for contractors, and would potentially have access to runways and airplanes.

Officials say this operation and others like it aim to guard infrastructure. The agency says it's important to make sure people who work at airports are here legally. Investigation into the workers' immigration status has been going on for a while, leading up to the raid. The arrests have not affected flights or travel to and from the airport.

While driving to work today I was listening to Elliot in the morning on DC101 and numerous callers were calling in to tell Elliot that local police and ICE agents were storming the airport and setting up checkpoints outside of Dulles airport in a crackdown on illegal immigrants that work there. A checkpoint was apparently setup on Route 28 near the airport and inside the airport grounds.

Callers were saying that people were jumping out of vehicles and running through the woods in order to escape from being arrested.

The DC area where i live is a hotbed of illegal immigration and it is good that they are at least making efforts to clean it up in our most sensitive areas. Illegal immigrants could be more apt to be blackmailed into providing terrorist/criminal support due to their status and it is dangerous to have them working in or near something as important as an airport.

Maybe the callers shouldn't have called, were they tipping off the illegal aliens on purpose?

WHy doesn't America kick them out? In France our National langauge is Francois, Germany has the National Language of Deutch, so why don't America make Americanized English their official language and make the people learn it? In France we do not bow and bend to the will of someone there illegally, if they do no speak Francois they are not talked to unless they are a tourist with money to spend.

Now yes we all learn a seperate language, some learn English as I did, some learn Spanish, others learn Deutch, so forth, but our National language is Francois.

No, the callers were calling AS it was already happening. They said that many people were jumping out of vehicles before the checkpoint in order to get away. There was absolutely no mention of this in any media this morning and WTOP is the only cource that i could find, and even that was 4 hours after the raid. I think it was kept as secret as it could be.

We dont kick them out because our country is mired in political correctness and honestly at this point it would be impossible to kick them out because their numbers are estimated at up to 20 million. They are such a huge part of our economy now that it would deal a deathblow to us if they all were gone overnight. We've worked our way into quite a problem with this by sitting back and doing nothing and letting the rich and powerful exploit these people for cheap labor. It has done a number on the middle class in this country.

All I can say is that we need more concrete action like this, throughout the country. Until you can enforce immigration laws for real, there is no point in changing them.

I wonder if there was some reason for this specific raid. I'm not talking about the arrest of a large number of south american immigrants. I'm talking about perhaps, some chatter that led the authorities to believe there might be something planned that will come out of that airport.

and for this comment:

"if they do no speak Francois they are not talked to unless they are a tourist with money to spend"

all I can say is now I remember why I love the French so much.

Yumi
so why don't America make Americanized English their official language and make the people learn it?

Because america is a free country, not a socialized nation-state like France or Germany.

In France we do not bow and bend to the will of someone there illegally

And in return of an unwillingness to accept the culture of immigrants, you had riots and mobs while we in the US had friendly 'walk-outs' and parades.

I doubt that that was at issue, though it is curious that the checkpoint was setup at the airport.

I have to wonder, how would someone anticipating the NWO to come to power would react to " agents were storming the airport and setting up checkpoints"??

Escrotumus you were doing fine until you got to the final two sentences of your post where you went into playback mode.

Really, take a look at where the vast majority of such people are employed and you will find the people employing them are anything but rich and powerful. Futhermore, illegal immigrants have had nothing to do with doing a number on the middle class in this country. For that you'll have to turn to the labor unions and the average consumer.

Astronomer70: True, many of the people that employ them are themselves middle to upper middle class people who really DONT want to have to shell out for healthcare and benefits for their labor force. This way they can pay as little as they can and keep as much money for themselves. It is greed in one form or another any way you look at it. At the rate they are taking advantage of these people, in 10 years they WILL be wealthy from it and with wealth comes power. Outsourcing, global competition and the stagnation of a living wage from illegal immigration labor is what has caused the problems in the middle class, not the unions. The unions are just a convenient excuse for corporations to use so that they can continue to make things as cheaply as possible and sell them for as much as they can. Besides, the power of unions has been falling for years and they are already practically in their death throes.

Theres no way that the american worker can compete with cheap third world industry. The only hope we have is that in 10 years their economies will equalize with ours and it will cost the same amount of money for an american worker to do the job as it would for an illegal/foreign worker and then we will no longer have any need for this cheap labor force. If you think that illegal immigration has nothing to do with the downsizing of the middle class then i think you are sadly mistaken. With an oversupply of cheap labor its only natural that wages will decrease. Simple supply and demand at work.

Anyway, offtrack. BTW, im a serious amateur astronomer myself so we can agree on that at least

Crakeur: since the citizens of the town of Herndon voted out all the pro-illegal immigrant supporters in their city council, there has been a major push to crack down on illegals in that area. Dulles is right outside of the Herndon limits and that whole area is a giant illegal immigrant mecca. Also, as the article says some of those workers had access to the planes themselves. Its been what, 5 years since 9/11 and we still have undocumented workers with access to our critical areas? It really is outrageous and dangerous.
