Hmmm 17,000 out of over 5,000,000,000 that's about 0.0000034%. Yep. Sounds like a real representative group of the world's population. I don't think I the hip waders I have are going to be enough for this manure pile. A full wetsuit might work. I buy into the question everything mentality that is expected from poeple on ATS, but I have to wonder what makes the people who agree with this poll sure that they are right. They seem to have only one view on things. What makes them so sure that they are not the ones being manipulated?

Marg,

I think the world at large generally knows that we are just the subjects in this vast land we call America. HOWEVER, they ridicule us, because what is happening to us is against everything America has ever stood for in the past. AND WE THE PEOPLE, let it happen.

Therefore, they see us as stupid weaklings now. Can you blame them? I cant.
Even our closest neighbors in Canada, cant understand why we are allowing- YES- we the people, are allowing all this to take place. Go figure.
It is our fault. (myself included, of course)

I know its disgusting....I cant believe there are so many in europe who just "lets just leave them alone do they dont hurt us" even after the london bombings they would rather roll over and say "oh well, its really the US fault, they threaten global peace"

What's disgusting is that even after seeing the building 7 footage people still can't put 2 and 2 together.

yes, see its because 9/11 was our fault, its actually a government conspiracy to frame innocent muslim radicals, who yes, just happen to kill civilians and anyone they can get their hands on, BUT its the US fault!!!! they caused the Terrorists to hate everybody!!! and we shouldnt be in their countries.....oh we are soooo bad.....

Let's not forget that originally Al Qaeda was recruited and trained by the CIA to fight the Soviets in Afghanistan. They fought a CIA backed jihad using U.S. supplied weapons. Between 1978 and 1992 the United states gave at least 6 billion dollars to the Mujaheddin, or as Ronald Reagan called them, "contras."

So, while I wouldn't exactly call 9/11 a government conspiracy to frame "innocent muslim radicals", I would call it a government conspiracy utilizing CIA assets to provide justification for the Project for the New American Century.

and if you speak in favour of fighting the war on terror you are called a right wing nut, a warmonger, a Nazi, etc, etc, etc... you still have the right to think what you want to think, and to express your views in a peaceful manner, which is a lot more than other people can do in their own countries...

Just be careful you don't express too much over the phone, the NSA might be listening...

Please guys if you're going to quote PoGo get it right. "We have met the enemy and they are us." You know, I'll bet that line has been quoted over a million times since it first appeared in the comic strip.

I think some people are misunderstanding the role of sampling. A sample of 1,000 people is statistically relevant for a population of 60M (UK).

Obviously it depends on the methodology but viewed against this the results are valid.

I'm not surprised by the result - America's reputation around the world is far from favourable (and the UK's is little better thanks to Blair)

The American people have had the opportunity to prevent the people being associated with their government's actions but chose to react to scare stories about gay marriage and re-elect the dolt.

You made your bed, now you have to lie in it

I am very upset about this poll.

We have to make people around the world understand that . . . what our political leaders do is actually independently of what the general public and people of America wants.

wish that were true marg, but its not. I once told a friend that if you have an idea or thought, but never act on it, then its as if it never existed. If you feel a certain way, but never act on it, then whos to say youre any different. If you never acted out, then whether or not you agree inside your own mind, your telling everyone else that you DO agree.

Thats the simple truth. We all agree because we fail to act.

The problem is . . . that no matter what our political leaders are doing to fight terror around the world . . . the world is judging our nation base on the effect of the actions of our nation as a whole in the mess that has become the country of Iraq.

While every other nation fell for us when we were attack during 9/11 . . . and supported us during retaliation in Afghanistan . . . they are judging our actions in Iraq.

Because in Iraq our fight on terror is not considered a fight because prior to Saddam it was not a problem.

Saddam killed many of his own country man and women . . . but our leaders actions against the Iraqi nation has killed many due to the now terror that plague that nation.

That is why we have been judge by.

a survey of 1,000 people in 15 countries surely is not a survey of what the people mayority of those people in those countries think...

Its actually a survey of 17,000 people, not 1,000. If you find a way of gauging public opinion by asking every single person on the planet a question then lets hear it, til then I think most everyone will rely on surveys.

I suppose politicians are insane for paying attention to approval ratings too

Unfortunately, the system of government in the U.S. has become a bastardisation of this fairly decent principle of "people's representation."
Until there is a resounding alteration of the current political structure, the American public will be easily swayed and gullibly led by self-serving individuals who are willing to secretly line their pockets with money made off overseas sweatshops, ecologically damaging factories, smuggled drugs and greedy profiteers.
America, unfortunately is no longer the "land of the free and home of the brave" but rather the land of the fearful. Humans aren't so dissimilar from wild animals who feel threatened or afraid. They strike out when there is a perceived threat to their environment and way of life.
Perhaps if America could just take some collective big breaths, reassure itself that everything will be all right, that there isn't anything really to be afraid of, look after and heal itself first then maybe embark upon changing the political landscape of the globe later. The world may think more highly of her.

Very true, very true, but political parties in the US are controlled by big interest and people in the US are controlled by political ideologies.

We have allowed the government to become a big corporation and big corporations like any other big entity controls trough money the rest of the nation.

At the same time they have money to burn as private entities to manipulate and direct views and votes to their desirable political parties and candidates.

And don't forget that it was the US's fault that Paris was burning not so long ago, and embassies burned because of a cartoon. I don't understand why we can't just let the fanatics run around slitting throats.

Oh we are such a big threat to peace around the world.
Just ask all the socialists in Europe - they'll tell ya! They have their game so together; we should definitely envy them and their way of thinking.

There is a big difference between how many people voted for president Bush during the elctions, which was millions of people, and how many people were "asked the questions from this poll, which was 17,000 in total in 15 countries which will make it a bit more than 1,000 people per country... 1,000 people does not make a country, and these polls can be easily rigged just by asking in "liberal cities" instead of more conservative cities.

There are many ways such polls can be rigged, and exit polls are bs, I worked as a volunteer in the 2004 election, and I also voted and never did i see anyone doing any "exit polls", which tells me they were only targeting certain areas to do such polls, which is one way in which such polls can be easily rigged.

What, all that?...you will soon have some people around here claiming that "everyone knows it was the U.S. government who did all that"....

BTW, there were some riots, again, in France not that long ago, but the largest riot lasted for about two days i think, then there were sporadic riots in some of the same neighborhoods...

Tue May 30, 8:51 AM ET

PARIS (Reuters) - Youths clashed with police in a Paris suburb overnight and attacked the home of the local mayor in disturbances one police union said were the worst since a wave of urban riots shook France in November.

French media said some 150 youths armed with baseball bats fought around 250 police for four hours in Montfermeil north of Paris after the arrest of a youth suspected of attacking a bus driver, an incident witnessed by the local mayor Xavier Lemoine.

Youths smashed windows, hurled two petrol bombs at the town hall and stoned the mayor's home, the media reports said.

Seven police officers were slightly hurt in the violence, in which six youths were detained, police said. Three remained in custody.

news.yahoo.com...

But again, the left doesn't want people to know about this...you after all, it's all the fault of the U.S. according to them, so they'll concentrate on claiming the U.S. is a dictatorship, and it is a threat to peace..........

Josbecky you are delusional, I never heard one perosn claim that the riots in Paris were Americas fault, they were caused by a proposed changes in French employment policies.

The United Nations is completely inadequate to fulfill the needs of the world. It is a disgrace, inefficient, and ineffectual. Meanwhile, in the absence of this power, the United States is doing what the UN should be doing.

Perhaps we should abolish the UN and put in its place a global government of power that can keep the US in its place. Heck, lets abolish national borders and soverignty and divide the world into "regions" where there would be no areas of conflict because we would live in this "global community".

The US is the greatest threat to global peace because the only hope for peace is the death of liberty and freedom. Some people still believe in fighting for liberty.
