Maybe this should be in the Music section, but for my money, this is where it belongs.

Be It Proposed That:

Bob Dylan is the greatest artist of the second half of the twentieth century.

Not just in music, but in any art. And notice I didn't qualify that by saying 'American' artist or even 'Western' artist. I'm talking global here.

What do other members think? And if Dylan isn't the greatest, who was?

Thanks for the link. I prefer James Maynard Keenan's other band, A Perfect Circle.

APC are awesome too. If I don't listen to Thirteenth Step or Merr de Noms at least once a day, I freak out.

Although APC haven't produced anything to surpass Aenima. In fact, I don't think that's even humanly possible. ...except for Chuck Norris maybe.

I think David Bowie was a better musician (and therefore artist) than Bob Dylan.

IMHO Dylan followed very traditional folk music rules whereas Bowie was totally innovative and new.

Dont get me wrong I think Dylan was/is incredible but in my mind Bowie supersedes him every time.

What are the credentials to make one great?
I figure If I can stand the person's music they can't be all that good

I guess I just hate people who claim this person or that is the greatest

My own thoughts on Dylan, a former minnesotan, is he isn't very good
