US Representative Patrick Kennedy (D-RI) has reached an agreement with prosecutors to plead guilty to driving while under the influence of
prescription drugs. The charges were a result of an incident where Kennedy crashed his car in the early morning hours earlier this year, during a
period where he had been taking several prescription medications.

WASHINGTON — Rep. Patrick Kennedy has reached a deal with prosecutors to plead guilty to a charge of driving under the influence of prescription
drugs in connection with his middle-of-the-night car crash last month near the U.S. Capitol.
Two additional charges of reckless driving and failure to exhibit a driving permit will be dismissed under the plea agreement.

Since the incident, Kennedy has voluntarily checked himself into a rehab center to seek help for his problems. He recently returned to Washington
after completing a 30 day treatment plan.
His actions are in sharp contrast to the evasive tactics of other members of Congress, such as William Jefferson and Cynthia McKinney. At least
Kennedy is willing to take responsibility for his actions.
