I received this report from a terrorism analyst recently. I've given it a very light edit.

The massive nationwide aircraft search here in the US, spurred after the discovery of bags of boxcutters, bleach, and clay simulating explosive has yielded the questioning of a college student.

This was probably a move by the NSA or a part of the DoD network.

Consider, their job was to release information relating to upcoming terrorist actions that at least some elements of the government had prior knowledge of.

Consider also that about right now would be the perfect time for another 911 attack: due to drooping morale of US troops, economic pressures, opposition to continuing the war effort, opposition in general to the US, and most importantly, thanks to Russia getting in the act aligning with OPEC against the US, and OPEC looking more and more likely to adopt the Euro...

Such an attack would give the president instant public support, would make any and all financial appropriations far easier, and would likely give us the perfect excuse to launch a preemptive strike against OPEC.

So, if you wanted to spoil these plans, what would be the perfect way, assuming they were planning a complete rehearsal of 911?

Drop bags of weapons in aircraft, notify the FBI, and the MEDIA (who spread it all over the globe in less than an hour). Hell, if the FBI just stumbled across it, they would have held a hell of lid on it. This was deliberately leaked.

An interesting analysis, that suggests the next 911 will use the tried and tested boxcutter method.

I'm not all that big on the boxcutter WMD theory from the first attacks that the Bush admin were so complicit in, but the recently reported info about boxcutters is sure worth considering.

OK, understood hmmm.

Maybe substitute "an act on the part of some NSA or DoD personnel" to net the desired outcome, i.e. to foil the plot.

It would still be far-fetched to you if you were one who believed the Bush admin would not be so stupid as to allow planes to be used as weapons again.

ok that makes a lot more sense. they leaked the stuff so that people would be more aware of an attack from that area.
