Religion...Scaring us to be good.

We can be apprehensive or complain all we want, but look at this way, at least it's not the end of the world. Humanity has always gotten lucky in our on-going quest to survive all the way until some sort of dramatic peace somehow comes about i.e. the festivals of Rome. And besides, can there be any better antidote to all that ails this increasingly crumbling planet than a good dose of being scared straight?
