????? Did I just see someone say that the cold war Russian weapons were cool? Uh uh. Those T-82s, AKMs, Mi-24s, and Su-27 would get Whoooooooooooooped by Russia's new toys like Black Eagles, An-94s, Mi-28s and Ka-52s and Su-37s/Mig-29M2s/Mig-33s.

Russia's newest weapons are great. Go Russia! Ura! Ura! Za Rosiyu!

No profanity in your post, didn't mean that. But posting with languagues that most people in a board don't understand tend to go into a not so nice direction... You wouldn't like me to say bad things about Russians in Finnish

I understand some Russian, I don't speak it well.

And these are just mu opinions, i'm no mod here just a user like you.

It was a quote as you can tell. I see your point though and i agree with you

All these years Russia has been filling military contracts for other countries like India. Heck India probably has more modern Russian weaponry than Russia. It is a pity that Russia was not able to afford its own new weapons, even though it has the enginering talent and experience capable of producing the best in the world. A big problem for Russia is that many engineers and scientists left to work in Europe and US, but I think the booming economy will sway them back. Another problem is the dropping population, but that also seems to be on the turn around.

I currently live in the US but plan to move back to Russia soon, and I really want to see Russia strengthen and grow. US needs somebody to balance it out again, because currently it is feeling powerful enough to police the world and not care what anyone thinks. The situation in Russia seems to be far better than the 90's, and I hope that it will be a superpower on par with US again in about a decade.

The bad thing is much of the Western World still attaches communist stigmas to modern Russia. American news coverage about events in Georgia and Ukraine are so biased and anti-Russian that it only increases this misunderstanding.

Spets, is that from a song? BTW, some of us Americans speak and read Russian believe it or not, heck some of us even go to Russia, I was in Moscow last year.

I think it is a fair statement that the progress the US and Russia made in forming a better relationship in the 90s has taken an unfortunate turn lately, and if those are indeed lyrics (which they sound like), it probably isn't going to do much good quoting them here.

Anyway...

I have always been impressed with Russian Attack Helicopters. I had the oppertunity to talk to a MI-28N pilot at the 7th International Moscow airshow last year, one of the interesting things he said was how much smoother it is to fly the new platform compared to earlier versions.

Another interesting thing about the MI-28N, it can carry 3 people like passengers. I have heard of this type of thing happening in Afgahnistan, where USMC Cobra's have tied SOF personel to the platform as to quickly lift them up a mtn.

I saw the Su-33, but I don't remember it being flown. I do remember the Mig-29 flight though.

The most impressive thing I saw though was the An-124 transport they had on display. It was opened up so you could walk inside...good stuff.

Darksided; yes, those are lyrics. I would agree with them, not fully however. Those are not my views, just lyrics of a section of a song. The song itself comes from the 90s so is not a new one. I am not trying to hide anything by speaking russia, even if you didn't speak russian there would be nothing stoping you from taking a dictionary or going to a translating website. As I have stated befor I agreed that it wasn't polite to post in a different language and said I won't do it again. The quote would sound stupid if I am to translate it.

Those are small amounts of numbers in their new weapons and vehicles and aircraft. Wasnt Russia supposed to favor quantity over qaulity?

quantity over quality would be a USSR slogan. and even then the equipment they developed for some reason always seemed to chalenge that of the rest of the world...any idea why widlcat? could it be that it was actually really good?

Russians learned that quality beats quantity 1939... But instead on focusing only on quality they merged them, for example AK-47 is dirt cheap to manufacture, but still a good quality product, as are T-55s etc (for their time of course)

So basically even during the cold war Soviet slogan should have been "good equipment and lots of them by stramlined designs

Ps. Don't assume complicate means good, it's usually the other way around..

Since the russians dont like quality they have vehicles and aircraft that look funny in my own opinion. But I also heard the handle extremely well.

Since when do Russians not like quality? Its' just that the best weapons have a perfect fit- quality, price, and reliability. And in this respect I am willing to argue that Russia has struck a perfect match after WWII. Sure US weaponry is very high tech, and possibly of better quality- when it actually works. But reliability is a question, and price is well out of comparison with Russian weaponry. I believe that soon after the current economic boom Russia will once again resume making high quality weapons of trusted engineering, reliability, and unbeatable prices. America on the other hand is throwing away hundreds of billions of dollars on high tech weapons that have yet to stand the test of time.

In my opinion the more high tech and complex something is, the more parts that could go wrong and render the weapon useless.

And it is just opinion based, but I in no way think that Russian tank/planes are of ugly design. in fact I think that Su 27, 37, and 47 are the best looking jets ever. I also prefer the smaller and more agile styling of the current Russian tanks to the heavy and cumbersome Western counterparts like Abrams.

I like one Russian tank (I dont know the name of it though). Yes infact that more complexity means a better chance of something going wrong and its harder to fix it. Im sorry I should of said "they favor qauntity and their military devices arent as complex as the Americans but do work well". When I mean they dont favor qaulity I am meaning that they dont like things as complex as the Americans do. I could of worded it a bit better. But anyway some of them do look funny like some of their helicopters but US weaponry takes up alot of power like gas. The Abrams tank takes up alot of gas and when a need for more gas I think its a bad idea to use it all on tanks.
And I know that their military has high quality things. US equipment does go wrong, like in the desert, the barrels get sand in them from sand storms and have to be cleaned out. I dont think that happens on some Russian designs.

When I mean funny looking I mean this -www.aeronautics.ru...

But and I dont like the look with the Su 47 but I do believe after seeing all of these designs that look different that the Russians like to think out of the box.

And one more thing to add.

I know better than this but in America theres a whole lotta propaganda concerning the Russians going on. But isnt that what TV is for? Lies all lies to get people to do and think what you want.

Yes some Russian design do appear awkward, but remember everything that seems to be out of place is really there for a reason. This is not a beauty pagent, and I highly doubt any enemies will be admiring the looks of the AH64 or Mi28 helicopters. As for quantity over quality- that is about to change for Russia as well. True that during the cold war the massive buildup of ground, sea and air forces left Russia with far greater reserves that the US. With the newest technology Russia is adopting a more American approach with focusing primarily on superiority and safety of its weapons. I believe the newest Russian tanks are considered the safest in the world, together with Israeli tanks.

As for propaganda against Russia, I couldn't agree more. US-Russian relations are at the worst since the end of the Cold War. First Russia declined to participate in the farce that is the War On Terror. Then US tried to gain control of ex-Soviet states like Ukraine, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Moldova, and Belarus (successfully in all but the last one- thank God). And then Putin is painted as a supporter of dictatorship and wanting to go back to Soviet Union. I don't know what games US is playing, but whatever they are they will land them in hot water with Russia.

I am in the US and I dont like the governments actions upon the world. America is all about war and revenge. We have done some really stupid things recently all b/c of bad leaders.

Don’t think that Russia hasn’t done anything wrong b/c of bad leaders also. Khrushchev kept the entire country misinformed when all of their ICBM's kept on blowing up.

Although that was in the soviet era. Now they have better technology from their failures like MIR which became the ISS. also on the subject of tanks, the soviet T-72's, T-82's and BMP's all look much better than the us ones. They look far more simple and rugged. The only conflict the American Abrams' have fought in was the Iraq wars and now there is no M1A2's that are in a temperate colour scheme. the Russian ones seem more suited to their own country, (I will remind you that it also has desert, temperate, jungle and tundra because of its massiveness), and they also seem more suited to urban conflict, the BMP in particular whereas the American M1A2 is much too large and cumbersome. but that is excluding the American LAV's and such which I know very little about apart from that they have a 20mm AP cannon rather than the BMP's anti armor cannon, except fore the BMP-2 which has a anti personnel cannon
