Sweet Jesus! Look, Xmotex, we have real problems facing the United States and the world. We can’t fix New Orleans. The whole Gulf coast. But our Military Industrial Complex wants to keep spending untold billions every year for nothing.

You seem to be completely misunderstanding where I am coming from.

Because the Russians were ahead in a couple of areas does not mean I think we need Cold War redux. On the other hand the triumphalist BS about how we were ahead of the Russians in ever single way is just that, BS. The Russians had some extraordinary technical successes, especially in their space program. First to orbit, first to put a human in space. First to put humans in orbit for long periods... need I go on?

I'd be the first to say the US needs to get out of the "global dominance" business, and ASAP. It's a waste of money, and lives.
