I want to know, im also not exactly sure were to put this but still want to know(mods move this if needed)

with all the conspiracies between Katrina, The world trade centers,Aliens an such, does free speech still apply.

Why do people get silenced in some way or another about information. Why cant I just call the president out. Ask him an the other people in power whats really going on. im pretty sure they wont give you straight answers. but why

if i started a petition of some sort to get the president to speak out on whats really happening,or have someone speak for him since he cant even read his own handwritting.

or most of all why is everyone talking about all these conspiracies an such....why not start getting them out to the public. make people more aware

You could get the entire population (and I mean all 300 million plus) to sign the petition and Bush would still not tell us anything. Hell the guy has already challenged over 750 laws so what would stop him from disregarding one more.

As far as how far censorship SHOULD go, well lets look at the first amendment.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

From what I can see here is that the govt is strictly prohibited from censoring ANYTHING.. but in practice this has never been the case. Just look at the FCC.. their very existance is unconsitutional, but yet here they are.

Unfortunately we the people means about squat to the powers that be..and the saddest part is that we voted for these usurpers of freedom.

I think this is more of a Website-Related Discussion topic, so I'm going to move it there -- but as is always the case, please don't hesitate to let me know if you think I made a bad call. I try to put threads where they belong, not censor opinion.

As for how far censorship can go, it can go all the way.

In my opinion, the worst form of censorship doesn't look like censorship at all. Instead of seeing opinions squelched, you never see them.

Instead of seeing dissent, you see nothing but peace and harmony, because everyone agrees on what is right, and the Dear Leaders only seek to serve the people. And are loved.

Want to see true censorship? Go where differing opinions aren't tolerated. There is no shortage of such places in this world, or on the Internet.

Want to see true freedom of speech? Go where everyone's arguing all the time and always knocking the leadership.

That's how you know you're in the right place.

Often times it is the case where somethings are just willfully ignored by our media, or even told by the govt to not let the story out. As was the case when the Story first broke about the NSA spy program. NY Times

The White House asked The New York Times not to publish this article, arguing that it could jeopardize continuing investigations and alert would-be terrorists that they might be under scrutiny. After meeting with senior administration officials to hear their concerns, the newspaper delayed publication for a year to conduct additional reporting. Some information that administration officials argued could be useful to terrorists has been omitted.

So it seems that censorship is rising to new levels and they are even going so far as to pass laws forbidding people from leaking info even if the Activity that the person is "leaking" is something that our govt is doing illegally. prosocuting reporters

So I say look out because the wheels of socialism are turning here in america
