Global Warming?? HAHA

Why cant people address the situation at hand with out bringing there personal political views in to the picture. While the president does have influence over many things the congress of the united states is the one who has the real power…..and yes administrations have a major pull on the political process. The people are the ones who vote for who gets in to office so blame your friends families and residents of your cities, instead of blaming people who you probably have never met and held a debate with. This is NOT pts and global warming has happened during the Clinton campaign. While bush is quite ignorant and stubborn, you can not blame a GLOBAL event on one man and his supporters. As for the real facts of global warming there are hard to find and require looking though both sides that say global warming is caused by humans and the other that says global warming is nonexistent…but the truth is nether. Global warming is happening and has been happening for along time but humans have had a minimal impact on it.

(Deep breath) No, the ozone layer is being eroded at the poles by the usage of CFCs. We know this - it's been monitored. CFCs have been banned. The ozone layer should heal eventually. As for global warming, please do some basic research on this topic, because it is occurring. Honest.

And what's that you said on personal political views? I thought I'm entititled to have my views and express them. You see, I come from a free democratic country.

Anyways, to cut a long story short, here's something you can read on why the Kyoto Protocol (heard it??) has not moved forward because of the intransigence of a couple of countries led by the US of A:

The recent Kyoto meeting taking place in Montreal, Canada holds a special significance; it reaffirms the commitment of various nations towards reducing GHG (green house gasses) which are thought to be the leading cause of the global warming phenomena. As much as the treaty has brought to light the affects of GHG it has been unsuccessful in convincing the United States of America and Australia to join in.

At the present moment there is too much to lose for the United States of America by signing the Kyoto protocol. The US estimates that it will cost the US economy $400 billion and thousands of jobs by signing the Kyoto protocol (The Wall Street Journal). Surely there must be a better way to get the biggest polluter of GHG involved.

Kyoto is so flawed enabling countries to make millions selling there pollution credits to others …making yet again another corrupt idea with the best of intention much like oil for food. It started with good cause to feed ppl….but instead the ppl starved just as bad while lining the pockets of the rich…..not only did the UN know they did nothing…..wow we should support what they say. And to let you in on something for a developing nation (Ex. China) it doesn’t apply to them…. The senate was almost unanimous in declining the US’s joining it so booth democrats and republicans agreed on it that makes it interesting. An environmental issue agreed on by the right and the left …wow

How long has there been weather on Earth? About 4 billion years.

The percent of time mankind has scientifically studied weather on Earth since its creation? About 0.000000075%. The percent of time mankind has scientifically, and with some accuracy? About 0.000000030%.

So, since we know SO MUCH about the overall trends of how the Earth's cycles run, it's totally obvious that global warming is happening.

Oh come on, you dont have to even have any data, just use common sense. Deforestation along with modern industrialisation not to mention the internal combution engine. We are poisoning this planet and soon we will create a runaway greenhouse effect if we dont get corporations under better control.

There's something very... funny, about what you said there...

That being said, I did use common sense. Well, common sense with the aid of scientific knowledge. Something the majority of people who tote the "OMG Humanity is causing global warming " crap don't often use.

Though, I should be specific. I do believe that global warming is happening. Does it have anything to do with the works of man? Not in the slightest! What does it have to do with then? The natural cycles of the Earth that man knows next to nothing about!

For example, during the times of the dinosaurs, the Earth's average temperature was A LOT higher than it is today. Namely, the average temperature of the poles was about -10 C (14 F), while today it's about -60 C (-76 F). So who is to say that the Earth simply isn't working its way back to that high?

Shows how well informed you all are:

Volcanoes don’t even produce fluorocarbons.

And if he meant to say carbon dioxide when he was trolling, humans presently outpace all volcanoes by a factor of 150 (by tonnes/year).

It seems to be more noticeable the farther north you travel. Its been said by Canadian innuit that when the red spirit bird(or something like that) arrives, our land will change.

For the past 3 years, eskimos have been seeing robbins for the first time. It has to be warming up for there to be robbins that far north as robbins peck worms out of thawed ground as we all know..

I know the weather here in Edmonton is much warmer then it used to be. I havent been here all that long but Ive been told by some locals that in the 80's you could not buy outdoor flowers at the garden center. They were just non existant here and the only thing they had for sale were shrubs, trees and grass seed... mainly because the climate here would not support the flowers...FF 20 years...everyone has flowerbeds in their yards....Hmmmm, couldnt be global warming, could it???

I'm a fan of Mitch Battros, author of Solar Rain, because I believe what he does: that we humans cause a small percentage of Global Warming compared to the real culprit -- our Sun -- which is mostly due to Solar Flares. There is nothing we can do about it and that's scary. No wonder governments and scientists don't want us to know.

We all better look in the mirror rather then blame it all on corporations. There is enough blame to go around for all in mankinds waste of natural resources. Just think how much energy savings we would have if we really put our minds to it.

I asked this before in another thread, what cause the "Warm Period" then the "Little IceAge" in Medieval Europe. I Don't think there was much posioning of the planet by mankind back then? There are other forces at work in nature with the warming and cooling of our planet. Sure, man plays a part in it but there are other events that are just as important.

"so is our sun (it's getting brighter)" Was looking back for original quote but. too impatient. anyhoo while I do know that sun cycles do cause our sun to grow brighter at times. recent studies show that we are actually getting less of the suns light on the surface of earth. which essentially is combatting the effects of global warming. The cause of this is pollution. certain chemicals that are being pumped into our atmosphere(dont recall the names) are causing our atmosphere to hold more water in a vaporous form which is basically reflecting more of the suns light.....

Sorry for not posting an original source. I will be happy to humor the nay sayers out there when I have mnore time but feel free to look it up.

Um, fire was beig made conciously by homoerectus I thought...maybe 2 million years ago?

in any case, global warming is real, but so is global cooling. They go up and down. Right now, the trend has been to cool for 100-200 thousand years, then warm for 5-10 then cool again. But our climate is not cooling and is warming increasngly, whether it's human causing the delay in the cooling or something else, is still in debate. But the Earth does have a warmer in-between ice-age temp than normal.

News flash! When scientists study weather and climate, they use techniques a bit more sophisticated than weather.com or just sticking their heads out the window. We have developed many techniques that allow us to examine climatological phenomena from many thousands of years ago - ice core sampling is just one of the many examples. Science is open to criticism but you should really try to understand it before you go off on it.

Who else finds it ironic that some people will get excited about any new science or technology or research that gives them another 20 horsepower but scoffs at any science, technology, or research that demonstrates why they shouldn't have it? Oh, those inconvenient truths!

So from the content of my posts you couldn't gather that I knew that already? Or did you think that I thought that we got the average temperatures of regions from millions of years ago from magic? Also, you would have seen that I do believe that global warming is happening - I just don't think that humanity has much of anything to do with its causes.

Global warming is actually the climate weather gets colder.Not warmer because the ice melts in most ice formed regeions and it gets colder.

Though pollution is bad for health, it causes very few percent of global warming it's not the real cause.
