It was almost stolen by Gore.

I know you all hate Bush (he's evil and all) but he did win 4 recounts (all of the them). Sure, there was a lot maneuvering on both sides. Gore opened up the whole mess with the courts, he sued first. And, I don't see anyone bitching about the Florida Supreme Court - which were totally partisan - that's a bunch that should be in jail.

Bob88 was very clever to leave off how he intended to finish,

"It was almost stolen by Gore, but it was a pre-orchestrated theft by the neo-cons for Bush".

It was the first election in US history where the 'president' was appointed by the Supreme Court after their awarding of electoral college votes for the cliffhanger state to the candidate in question.

To the extent that the Supreme Court acting to intervene in due process before the completion of recounting to prescribed standards demanded by another Court might constitue theft, then yes it must be theft, or if it doesn't, then no it's not.

The future could well be worse though until Americans wake up to not just their freedoms but also their basic democratic right being eroded and removed through deliberate corruption of non-paper-based methods.

The extent of corruption is in the "only in America" category, and it is not that widely different from armed forces menacing voters leaving polling stations in third world countries, who make sure the voter has not made a mistake. It's just white collar crime in the US instead.

MA, your country is such a mess... why don't you help??

The Supremes only overruled the Florida supremes in their mishandling of the recount. A chad hanging is a chad on the floor of the voting booth.

How many times need it be said?

There was a Democratically controlled supreme court in florida, who themselves, attempted to steal that election!!

Get your facts straight before you come over here.

Tony Blair needs more tea in his diet anyways.
