Why did Kirk always do that semi-girlish half slap-half chop move on people?

Needless to say that was the only episode of Star Trek where Chuck Norris gets the girl in the end.

Someone should tell him that one of the ufo's is behind him, and one to his left. If I had time, I would play around with it, so he actually swats at the ufo's. But otherwise not a really bad pic.
