US Backs Down on Iran Sanctions

Not sure if this has already been discussed or if its in the correct forum(would imagine so since this is a current event) but I thought this was interesting.

US ready to back European diplomacy on Iran

The United States, unable to win support for sanctions against Iran, gave its European allies "a couple of weeks" to draft a fresh approach to persuade Tehran to drop its disputed nuclear program.

Sounds, in first reaction, like they are saying, 'you have a little while to take the diplo course, after than, its uniltaral-city". Looks like the rationale is that they couldn't get the international community to agree to sanctions, "so whats the purpose of diplomacy' if it has 'no teeth'.
