Yeah they probably just download a bunch of spyware on your computer anyway. I guess I'll just have to be happy with MSN on this laptop.

Get the cd, AOL 9.0 optimized. I got it, but immediately removed it after it tried to take over my dsl connection.

AOHell does suck. I keep 3 hours/mo at $4.95 to keep the email and web space, but I don't know why I do that.

I have aol because I cannot afford cable, or satellite. Version 7 is the last upgrade I am making. I did not want to upgrade from 5, but had to in order to get online on my windows xp machine. Each new upgrade wants to take over more and more of your machine while making it easier for advertisers to get their ads on your monitor.

On a related note: TO TURN OFF POPUP ADDS ON WIDOWS XP : To turn off the pesky pop up messages that you get online in windows xp do the following.
Go to control panel/administrative tools/component services/services(local) then scroll down the list and look for messenger. Right click and select properties. In the general tab look for startup and select manual. It is probably set for automatic. Click apply, then OK and you are done.

You know what is irritating about pop ups. In Netscape 4.0, you had an option to disable "Java Script". If you disabled "Java Script" in Netscape 4.0, it stopped the pop ups cold. Now in the newer versions of the browsers you can not disable "Java Script" without buying a $49.95 pop up stopper. Hell they had the pop up stopper years ago.

Just wait until you want to drop AOL - that is when the fun begins. You just can't call them. You have to write them a letter (and make it certified to be sure).
