Waynos - I seem to remember you posting a picture of what I think was a Sukhoi fighter that looked vaguely similar to a MiG-21 (delta wing, nose intake). I have a feeling it was the fighter shown flanking the Myasischev M-50 Bounder in the Toshino fly-over shot.
Can you refresh my memory - I have searched the forum to no avail!
Cheers!

This is the shot of the Bounder I was referring to.

Anyone else feel free to chip in!

Thar planes shown escorting the Bounder at Tushino in 1961 are MiG 21's. I'm not sure which other photo of mine you are referring to but the Sukhoi fighter that most closely resembles the MiG 21 is the Su-9 Fishpot

Which is not to be confused with the original Su-9 which was built before Stalin had Sukhoi OKB shut down, see here;

Thanks for the answer! Hmm... maybe it wasn't a Sukhoi, maybe another MiG? It was a type which few were completed (maybe just prototype or prototypes). I (think I) remember the shot was a 3/4 front view from slightly above, with the plane on a concrete apron somewhere (from memory). I think it was an early colour photo. It definately wasn't a Fishpot.
My memory ain't what it used to be!

It wasn't a 152m either
(although it is really nice - I've seen one (it?) at Monino!).
I think it was you that posted it!! There was maybe another pic from an old Observer's book aswell? It could have been one with a mixed up number. Thanks for looking!!

You've baffled me, but I have posted so many pics I can't keep track. I've also posted images of the Sukhoi T-1 and Mikoyan I-7, it may be either of these but I can't find the threads. Sorry.

I think I've baffled myself!

Thanks anyhow! I've a feeling it had a confusing designation like a Su-15, but it wasn't Flagon. I'm beginning to think I'm making this up!

I share your views. Take a look at the fins on that missile (or is that a rocket ?) ... now that picture would frighten an enemy to bits

For what it's worth - I think I found the plane I was looking for.
It's not the shot I saw, but I think it's the plane! A T-37 Sukhoi.

- Jayzuss H Creaaast skippy, you're surely not going to tell us that this is the first time you've made such a connection with the whole weaponry/military thing is it?

And PS: Vulcans rule!

True! Beauty is in the eye of the Beholder.

However that is why I have to disagree with you on the second Point! The F-117 Nighthawk flies, but it's got to be the uglies looking peice of crap ever built by a human being.

You have seen the F-117 before, haven't you?

(NOTE: you have to click the link because I can't seem to get it to upload correctly)

It's flying (by some odd miricle)! Now it's your turn. Where do you see beauty in this picture? Even the Lockheed test pilot who made the first test flight said the plane looks ugly! What are you seeing that I can't see?

Well said, fighter Master Finn! I applaud your reasoning. As I said, you are entitle to your beliefs. I personally prefer the smooth flowing lines of the B-2 Spirit. I like curves and natural flowing shapes! The F-117 just doesn't look right to me.

If you find beauty and elegance in the flat geometric panels of the F-117, that's good! I was only stating an oppinion. It was not personal.

Strangly enough, I though the facited shape looks great on the Sea Shadow stealth ship. Why couldn't they have built an operational fleet of thoes? I like facits on a ship, just not an airplane!

f-117 is beutiful purely because its ugly. Why do kids fantasize about m-4's and ak-47's-Cause the look bad---. Also its cool cause it functions... also it does have a sort of mathematical beuty

as for the vulcan... I dunno... Its okay.. wouldn't look at it like art though...
