Hayden is Bush's choice for CIA chief

Don't know much about this fellow, except he is the one that came up with the NSA wiretap scam. Don't really think a military man should be in charge of a civilian agency.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Air Force Gen. Michael Hayden has been chosen to head the Central Intelligence Agency, national security adviser Stephen Hadley said Monday.

Why not? If he is qualified for the job (which he is), then what's the problem? Active military officers have run the CIA before. Also, the current CIA deputy director is a military officer, so is the director of the NSA. In fact if Hayden is confirmed active military officers will run all the major Intel Agencies.

That was my first reaction too WestPoint however, for the American Public it just speaks volumes about how little this administration or ANY administration for that matter is concerned about disclosure. With Military officials leading the CIA we could easily be 20 to 30 years away from disclosure instead of a few months or a few years.

The only thing this guy is concerned about other than tapping our phones, e-mail, and our lives is protecting America's Secrets #1 from its commy enemies and #2 from its own citizens.

Think about it why would this New CIA director disclose anything to the public unless it has already been seen in the public. This director will be much more concerned about protecting his agents in the field and our armed forces rather than the publics right to know.

This is a great choice, if you like living under the control of a dictator.

Yeah... yeah as a matter of fact it is. I have no problem with military officers running intelligence agencies for the following reasons. Whoever runs the CIA or any major civilian intelligence agency, military or not will still report to the DNI and ultimately to the POTUS, nothing will change. If you want a civilian in there who is less qualified than Hayden just for the sake of having a civilian in charge then that's really dumb IMO.
The CIA has been run by active military officers before and it’s performed the same or better than it has with civilians in charge. By the way, civilians run the military but you have no problem with that?

yes, however if Hayden doesn't step down from the Air Force he will still have to answer them too is that correct?

How so? The President is the ultimate authority in the executive branch.

if he is still on their pay roll, while director of the CIA I'm sure he would need to answer to someone in the AF, if not, he would just take his 30 years of AF and retire!

AF interests are not always the same as CIA interests.

Sure he would answer to the President but if he is working for both he could potentially give the CIA bad info in order for the Air Forces' benefit.

That’s not how the intelligence community works, the CIA is a civilian agency as such even if Hayden is a General he does not take orders from the DoD when they pertain to the CIA. He only answers to the POTUS or DNI. Plenty of past examples have show that this works, military officer are capable of being impartial. By the way look up Hayden’s history, you will find that he is not a DoD “Yes Man” nor does he believe in the DoD controlling all the intelligence agencies.
