THE Czech Republic's spy chief was set to appear on Monday at a public ceremony disguised beneath long hair and a beard in order to conceal his true appearance so that he can continue to work in undercover operations.

The newspaper Dnes said Colonel Karel Randak had decided to let his hair grow out so that he would remain unrecognisable even during a televised ceremony at Prague Castle, when the head of state, President Vaclav Klaus, will promote him to general.
