Sick, wounded U.S. troops held in squalor
By MARK BENJAMIN, UPI Investigations Editor

FORT STEWART, Ga., Oct. 17 (UPI) -- Hundreds of sick and wounded U.S. soldiers including many who served in the Iraq war are languishing in hot cement barracks here while they wait -- sometimes for months -- to see doctors.

The National Guard and Army Reserve soldiers' living conditions are so substandard, and the medical care so poor, that many of them believe the Army is trying push them out with reduced benefits for their ailments. One document shown to UPI states that no more doctor appointments are available from Oct. 14 through Nov. 11 -- Veterans Day.
drudgereport.com...

Well, "Bring 'em on!" Isn't that what Bush said? Doesn'the support the troops? Hell, glad I ain't the one gonna get drafted.

Here's the kicker Colonel, I voted for these demonic muthafu%%as. I have seen the error of my ways.

As a vet. it really kills me to hear shyte like that. It's tragic. I'll go beyond what I said previously, I believe that God has a SPECIAL PLACE IN HELL prepared for these loony ass NEO CONS.

Truthfully, I almost was seduced by them before theelection but after the election I woke up. Then, I read about their backgrounds and I knew evil was in the House.

Sadly, this doesnt surprise me in the least. Why would it suprise you east coast? You were in, just liek me, you know the real deal.

Since when has America paid anything but lip service to the young bodies it is so willing to sacrifice in foreign wars? This is all we ever see, this thanks of our grateful nation. And they wonder why they have recruitment problems? Tell me, if youre a young person and see this #, how likely are you gonna want to serve a country like that?

is it any wonder that we have veterans that go nuts and turn on the govornment they once served, and the population they ocne believed they were defending?

This is beyond abominbal because it doesnt even surprise me in the least. This is how it is, and I want to slap those #ers who think they support thier troops. This is thier support?

I mean, no one expects super nice accomidations for soldiers, after all, they are traine dfor adversity. But sitting around for months, wounded and what have you, just waiting to see a #ing doctor? This is way beyond normal standard military adversity. This is abomination.

And yes, east Coast, it is good, that you voted for Bush in good faith, but were aware enough and inteleligent enough that you were capable of awakening and seeing reality, unlike most of the people who voted for him and still suppoort him

You better watch out Colonel, these "repugnants" might start blaming it on Clinton for cutting military spending and programs. Wasnt there a thread last month about Troops in Iraq without weapons having to take Iraqi AK-47's?

Where's the $87 billion going? Oh wait I remember what I saw on Ebay the other day, a broken down oil industry and some pipeline with an $87 billion price tag.. there ya go Halliburton, dont spend it all in one store.

Again, I hear nothing but rhetoric and sounds, but nothing of use. The democrats are worse, or at least have proven to be so in the past. Especially the last bonehead.

Any sane solutions, or more mindless "I hate Bush" crap.

We can really use a few bright ideas right now!

Um TC,

We did state the purpose of this thread.

Sick soldiers being neglected. period.

And, according to a current survey that appeared on MSN central, soldiers morale and faith and confidence is WAAAAAAAAAAAY down.

the issue here is the soldiers. period. They are suffering because our president sent them over there with no real clue what thier ultimate mission and ends to this operation was about. They are not properly trained. They have lsot faith in thier reasons for being there, or even joining the military.

And now, sick ones who return home are not recieving medical care.

Theres your answers right there. Instead of going after colonels rhetoric, attack the issue straight on.

You're hearing that because that's what you WANT to hear.

If this hits the front page, there will be a # storm. I hope some photo-journalists can get inside to document this. They'll have to at least send in a team of civilian doctors and nurses or transfer everyone to civilian hospitals.

Even this could run into problems if the situation is indeed much worse throughout the armed forces. There's already a shortage of nurses on the civilian side and any expense laid out for such a stop-gap would start eating into that $87 B really fast..

Ive heard lots of stories about the gov't reneging on promised education benefits. Not exactly a way to entice someone to join the ranks right now. Id be curious to see how recruitment numbers have been looking for the last few months.

Well, if the talk of reinstating the draft to bolster troop numbers is any indication, i think you have your answer there.

Agreed. I suspect though that the recruitment numbers have been REALLY, REALLLLY LOW.

Skadi, you watch any public-access in Seattle? Our station here last night had a couple nutballs walk into an Army recruitment center and started asking a bunch of tough questions. Very entertaining..

Can't blame Clinton anymore. He was soooo 3 years ago. Now, the defense budget has increased to take up half of our natoinal budget but these guys can't get proper medical care? You can't blame Clinton anymore....

It seems to me that Bush is cutting his own throat with this attitude towards the military...

...After all, if he has to depend on military might to conquer the rest of the world, he'd better start treating the soldiers better.

...Can we say, "Mass AWOL?"...Try to say "Military Coup"?...I knew we could...

There's a couple of potential answers for ya', TC.

I think "military coup" is a bit farfetched. Sorry. But, we all can dream.

Colonel,

Military Coup is not far fetched at all. This country almost fell to one in the thirties, for guess what...

Mistreatment of WW1 vets!

They were inspired by Hitler, who at that time, ws seen favorably by veterans in his country, we had vets that felt perhaps if a nationalistic fascist gov was in power, perhaps the
