As if there aren't enought drug addiction issues for teens, now they have come up with another toxic mixture. Tylenol PM and heroin. Parents should be aware of the name, as it sounds harmless.

The death of a Dallas teenager may have been caused by a new and dangerous drug that's working its way into north Texas schools.

The name "cheese" sounds harmless, but police say it's a toxic mix of heroin and Tylenol PM.

“‘Cheese’ is a relatively new concoction that has come up recently, we have seen an increase in this type of heroin mixture rise rapidly recently," said Deputy Chief Julian Bernal, Dallas Police Department.

Apparently sold in schools, wrapped in note paper. Sold for a cheap price too. Lunch money will get you a dose. The effects of the drug include euphoria, disorientation, lethargy, sleepiness, and hunger.

Geez, when I was in High school 'cheese' was just your run of the mill hashish.

Got'ny cheese man?!

But 2 bux a bump? Boy that tylenol must really potentiate it, to make it that cost effective?

I have a relative that is an Administrator for one of the schools in Dallas, Texas. I may contact her for her view on this, just for my own kicks.

It is amazing what junior chemists are coming up with nowadays.

Maybe all those chemical sets we got as kids had a lasting effect?

See this is exactly what happens when you lie to the youth about the effects of certain drugs and tell the truth about the others. Kids have a tennancy then to take on the attitude if they lie about one thing then they must be lying about others as well.

To the guy who mentioned smoking hash you should try bubblehash it rocks. Just to note if your in winnipeg be sure to visit the cafe and try the brownies they are awesome.

The discussion of drugs is allowed on ATS but the telling of your own war stories is not allowed. For those of you who might need some clarification on this please check out the following link:

2e.) Illegal Activity: Discussion of illegal activities such as drug use, drug paraphernalia, hacking, etc. are strictly forbidden.

I'm posting this now because this thread has the serious potential to spin out of control with personal stories. I just wanted to give everyone a heads up so the conversation can continue without any board drama taking place.

Love and light my friends,

That was IN in the sixties and seventies.

What all these new trends is telling that people will always find a way to come out with something to alter their minds.

Is part of human nature and has been since the beginning of man kind.

But now a days instead of giving you a Spiritual experience it probably kill your brain cells.

i read the link, taking heroin with alcohol is probably what killed her, both are central nervous depressants, you basically asfixiate because you forget to breathe. as for the name cheese sounding harmless, if my kid asked their friend for cheese i'd be very worried

''hay buddy, you get the cheese for tonight''
''oh yeah, i got lot's of cheese, i got it from henry''

they're either already stoned or they're gonna get stoned, one or the other.

When I first saw the title of this thread, I thought it was going to be about kids in trenchcoats smuggling wheels of gouda and limburger in school and getting high off of cheese fumes or something.

Im not really surprised. New mixes of new drugs happen all the time when people are looking for a new high. remember ebombs back in the 90s, those little blue brown gumdrop things that were a mix of black tar heroin and exstacy? And ice back in the late 80's, which was crystal meth and angel dust?

This seems to be the latest incarnation of home brewed dope concoctions. As long as this ridiculous war on drugs with its disinformation and patronizing attitudes continues, we can look forward to back alley rooms pumping out new mind bending mixes and new drug plagues popping up here and there.

When I was in high school "cheese" was.......well, cheese! American, Swiss, Provolone, etc...
What's amazing is how the younger kids nowadays are drawn into incredibly hard drugs knowing full well how they ruin your life. When I was younger people stayed away from anything addictive (crack, heroin, painkillers). When I was young if you messed with those drugs you were a "loser". Heroin and crack was for the "ghetto dweller" and "poor white trash".. I did my share of partying when I was younger but I will never understand the allure of heroin/crack....

How is it taken? Is it injected, injested, snorted, smoked or vaporized? I've never been one to put needles in my body, or anything up my nose smaller than my finger. However, I have to say that the idea of a smoked cheese. A nice smoked havarti is perfect as a pre dinner snack.

Well according to the news article, it is snorted like coc aine. Kids today need to find a hobby, besides drugs.

Haven't any of these kids SEEN the 'on going medical experiment' that is Keith Richards?
(Climbing a tree at his age....what was he thinking??????)

I find it troubling that the 'youth of today' (never thought I'd say THAT phrase when I ws younger LOL) no longer mess around with softer drugs. They seem to want to cut out the middle man and get straight to the 'fry your brain, possibly kill yourself and ruin your life' bit.

While its natural for kids and teenagers to experiment with drugs, alchohol and smoking etc there does come a time for most, that as you get older its time to put away childish things. Also I've noticed that they seem to start alot younger now. I'm 35 (in a week) and nearly everyone in my day who experimented with drugs etc fell into it between the ages of about 17-19, although obviously this is effected by regional factors as well.

Young people seem to be a lot more cynical, violent and unable to compromise than they were once. It scares the hell out of me to think that one day these kids will be runing the countries of the world! ( I think I'll wait for the emigrations to mars LOL)

I'm sorry but every other post has some zinger about cheese and well....the word cheese is just funny! I think some of us are cut from the same wheel-O-cheese here. Please forgive me as I can see where this is a serious problem.

Kids tend to push everything to the limit also, due to that 'immortal' feeling many of them have. How many of you should be dead from some of the stupid things you did as a kid?

Thats kind of the problem with a lot of the younger generation. We are force-fed that drugs will ruin your life, and that marijuana is as bad as heroin and illegal and all drugs are the same and bad.

And then we try marijuana. And find out that the whole rhetoric is all a lie. And THAT is the crack in the whole drug war rhetoric that opens the door for "finding what else was a lie".

When I first did meth, I didn't know what the big deal was. I got caught up with it and would routinely go a week without sleeping. For a year and a half I stayed up 6-8 days, and crashed for 1. Rinse repeat. My body and mind were wrecked, but as long as I was high, I could function.

Then I found out I had a baby on the way and I got clean as fast as I could. It took literally 2 weeks for my body and brain chemistry to detox enough to function, I was comatose literally for 3-4 days. It took another 6 months of relapses, each one with a longer sober period. Kicking that stuff after being a hardcore .5-1gram a day user was one of the hardest things that I've ever done. Heroin, crack, coc aine, you name it, I've done it. Nothing was as addictive for me as meth and I've learned to stay away from it and its been probably half a year or more completely sober now. The stuff that a clear head gives you for perspective is stunning. Marijuana doesn't even come close to comparing with meth\heroin addiction and the message we send to teenagers is that they are both evil. The truth would be much more effective at properly educating people on the true issues behind drug abuse. The drugs are not bad in and of themselves, it is the quick fix and brain\body chemistry programming that they do that is bad.

The drug war needs to end, immediately. It is a social problem, not a criminal problem.

Good post Violent

i whole-heartidly agree... in fact, i was having this discussion with a friend the other day (well, maybe longer ago than that .
). I used to take extacsy on a regular basis, and once I blacked out and split my chin. I was taken to the hosptial and the doctor said "look, its not the drug that directly caused this, ur dehydrating from dancing in a hot venue all night and drinking alcohol, which casues u to dehydrate further, hence the reason u passed out". The doctor was straight-up, and said "if ur gonna do this, make sure u rehydrate urself, preferably with sugary drinks like Coke to keeep ur sugar levels up". I told my friends this, and no doubt this has avoided a few potentially nast incidents down the line (think passing out down a staircase or in the bath, for example).

Many years back, a girl called Leah Betts (wrong spellign I think) died form taking extacy. The fear-mongers, instead of doing the right thing and warning peple of the REAL risks, just jumped on the "drugs are evil and satanic!" line of things. As tragic as it is, u know what she died of? not the drug, but her mates giving her too much water when she felt ill from the effects. Result? Her brain swelled up and she died. The verdict? ANYONE would've died, drugs or no drugs, under those circumstances (lots of heat and WAY too much water in a short time period).

And u know what? The myth that drinking water when ur feeling very ill under the influence of extacy STILL prevails in this country (UK). Now if that isn't criminal, I don't know what is.

What people need is education... no-one is ever gonna be put off by fear-mongering, what people need is to be told what u can do to make things as safe as possible, and no stigma so that if someone really is ill, they can get medical help without fear of getting into deep trouble.

What's amazing is the thought process that some of these teen girls especially have for the reason that they take many of the different drugs that are available to them .... Oh, it helps me loose weight quickly so I don't have to diet. It makes me more attracted and attractive to guys. And of course the age old standard, GAH! Everyone else is doing it and if I don't they won't hang out with me anymore!!.... I personally never got into the scene myself, I had a car before all of my friends so I was always the DD ( thank goodness) but it was scary sometimes to see how far down the rabbit hole they would go.

This problem is not just among the youth, there are many men and women who are successful in business, that feel that drugs on the weekend help them to relax from a stressful, exhausting week.

I feel sorry for the boys and girls that think it's just soooo ultra cool to be getting high without realizing that it is just ruining their precious bodies so much... The toxins that they are introducing the internal damage... it's really unfathomable to me ... Better education and seeing real life examples of what can and does happen internally and for the long haul is what is needed... Not to scare them to run off and just do it in secrecy but to scare them enough to give them that kick to say HEY !! *knock knock* you realize this is what you are doing and ruining yourself ?!!!

ARRRGGHHH!!! it's frustrating. Education begins at home.

Oona, no offence, but its precisley this kind of attitude that irritates me (not u personally, mind
). You've seen the movies, and now u can pass judgment, along with the appropriate solution

NO-ONE I know/known has done drugs recreationally "to look cool". Funnily enough, u know why they do it? because they enjoy it. No amount of scare tactics is gonna change this. what they need is education about the safe useage of drugs.

tarnishing all drugs with the same brush is a very damaging thing to do... "but to scare them enough to give them that kick to say HEY !! *knock knock* you realize this is what you are doing and ruining yourself ?!!!" and this is precisley the problem Violent was highlighting.

You know what I'd do if u told me what u just posted when I was back at school? Not listened 1 bit. And this is precisley the problem.
