Nuclear Submarines at the polar ice caps???
You do know that operating submarines under the polar ice caps is a very original idea. No other nation with nuclear submarines has ever thought of
the idea. Even today in 2006. Everyone just defaulted the ice caps to the Russians?? Very original. Even the Brits..they too take a pass on this
one.
I worked on the 688 I class nuclear submarines with the reinforced sail structures and under ice capabilitys. Tomahawk cruise missles too. These later
class 688 I boats had the fairwater planes removed from the sail structure and placed in retractable bow plane configuration in the ballast tanks
specifically so that they would not interfere with under ice surfacing maneuvers.
Yes operating under the ice is a new and novel doctrine..no one else would dare such original concept.
