Ok this has always been a question that I have had about ghosts or spirits. Why do they always were clothes. If they are spirits why do they need clothes and how does there clothes get to the other side with them? Usually the clothes they are wereing are not the ones they die in or are buried in. The crazy thing is and the reason I ask this question is my friend thinks he saw his dad as a spirit after he died and his dad was wereing his favorite shirt and jeans, not the clothes he died in or was buried in. So how would he get them, they were still in the closet but it was the shirt ( it had a picture of his grandkids on it) So you wouldnt be able to pick it up at the ghost store! Just wondering the clothes thing has always been the reason I have a hard time believing in ghosts or spirits..
Any thoughts??

Have you asked your friend how close he was to his late father, and what is/are his most vivid memories of his Dad?

Plumber1...that's an excellent question. I'm thinking it's a Hollywood thing because they'd rather show the ghosties with clothes on to get past the censors.

Having said that, though, I've been studying cave art, petraglyphs and all sorts of really, really old representations of the spirit world and the only time I've seen anything created resembling clothing on spirits was a 'white cloak'.

And I have NO idea what that means, other than the speculation that it somehow protects the shaman.

Yea sanctum he was real close to his dad and that is why I think it might of been all in his head by way of a dream or something it happened less than a week after his fathers death. The two grand kids were my friends son and daughter. I was using that as an example for how most photos or videos of ghosts have clothes. I would rather not dewell on my friend I was just using him as an example of how the general popuplation sees ghosts.

While I can't say ghosts exist or not, I have a fairly open mind.

My thoughts on this subject..

Not only was your friend real close to his dad. But you also metioned that his dad was wearing his favorite shirt and jeans.

Residual self image? Perhaps his dad wanted to be last seen wearing his favorite clothes?

Or perhaps, your friend just wanted to see his dad again, and maybe only had a vivid dream of seeing him again.

Just a thought.

This question was talked about on an episode of Penn and Teller:Bullsh!t. There main point was, if a ghost is the soul of a dead person, then the cloths must have also had a soul. So the question then is, Do cloths have souls? Well of course not, becouse they are man made, inatiment (sp?) pieces of fabric. Same thing goes for like ghost trains and stuff. They obviously don't have souls, either. This does not dicredit all ghosts, just apparitions, the ones with the cloths.

The conclusion that I have come up with, is either cloths have souls, or all these pictures and videos of apparitions wearing cloths are 100% Bogus.

If an apparition chooses to appear and it is the apparition of a human spirit, and that human spirit has enough sense of self to appear to a family member, then why wouldn't said spirit appear to said family member while conitinuing to observe the same social humility we all live by in life?

If an ancient spirit still roams the land he/she loved, why wouldn't they roam in the manner and dress they loved? You choose how to present yourself in life, why not in death?

Why do ghost wear clothes?

Because they believe in it...they wore it so long, so they create it as it is natural to them.
(they may not even know they are ghost..ever see the movie with Nicole Kidman, the others? Cool twist man!. hehehe)

My question is, why do we wear clothes?

Anyway...

Gods Peace

i think ghost can show themselves in whatever form they want, they could appear as a table or a dog but, they decided to choose that image of a person wearing clothes.

why? maybe because that is what they where.

It is probably because ghosts are hallucinations featuring extended characteristics such as psychokinesis.

Ghosts wear clothing because there is no reference sample from the personal mind that is doing this extended hallucination. Since psychokinesis is far more subject to measurements in places such as the Stanford Institute than are the ghost phenomenon, such an explanation appears tenable, while more research is necessary.

Think about it, something such as remote viewing using psychokinesis as a weapon at a distance is far more bizzare than the possibility of ghosts in our experience. We are more familiar with the phenomenon of ghosts by anecdote. So ghosts wear clothes when they originate in our own mind, and when we want them to wear clothes. Presumably nudists do not have this problem.

Apparitions do not choose to wear clothes. They are appearing to people as telepathy from the memory of living people. As such the appearance of ghosts is from the time they wore clothes. Most people forget, or would like to forget how naked people look. It is why some get more excited each time a naked body is seen.

Some visions I had were of ghosts in hooded robes, one in an airforce uniform, and some in regular clothes. Some just shadow people. They are all non-existent in the sense they make choices to appear to people. They memory located in a vortex, perhaps made up of many peoples' memory. That memory vortex can be powered many lifetimes by living energy feeds.
It remains unprovable if the memory of a person appearing as a ghost is handed down through DNA or simply telepathic transfers to a subconscious memory bank.

I think this question is interesting because it is one more bit of evidence that my theory is correct. This again is a mesh for this week. I just wrote about meshes in my last post on this thread......

www.abovetopsecret.com...

The things that still intrigue me is how these ghosts reacted in body movemnet to my talking to them and how some of them talked (mindspoke) back. I think this is further proof of a connection to living peoples' subconsciousness. I do not look to religeon for the root of evil.

relax and enjoy Easter, tell any ghosts you see I love them for me

It is just somebodies memory of a passed on soul, and you realize how people want to be cheered up about the memories of the departed.

love to all

Oh and if you see a ghost that is naked, tell someone at Stanford to telekinesis some clothing over to him/her. It may be cold in heaven/hell.......whereever, in the mind maybe, real cold, as in brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, that dood is cold. Thanks in advance.

Because ghosts have decency. They appear as they were in life, if they were a nudist however...................

A little off subject, but I think it's funny that they bury people in their best clothes. If you had to pick an outfit to go thru all eternity with, then I think you would pick your favorite sweater and comfortable pants like the ghost in the story.

I would venture to say that ghosts wear clothes because the clothes that they wore, were essentially a part of THEM. Could you imagine going around without your clothes on throughout your nomal day routine? (though some will probably say yes., but not the majority). Those clothes are part of their existence.. they picked the clothes, and had a personal attachment to those clothes as well. Certainly not the same kind of attachement that you have to another human, but a certain level of attachment none the less. Therefore , their soul.. their entity...their mental state ( all are synonymous) that we are perceiving when we see a ghost, is their personal image of themselves with their clothes on.

WHy can't inanimate objects have souls?
And why couldn't ghost just appear as they choose?
Residual Self image is another easy answer....

soul[1,noun]soul[2,adjective]soul brothersoul foodsoul kisssoul matesoul musicsoul-searchingworld soul

Main Entry: 1soul
Pronunciation: 'sOl
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English soule, from Old English sAwol; akin to Old High German sEula soul
1 : the immaterial essence, animating principle, or actuating cause of an individual life
2 a : the spiritual principle embodied in human beings, all rational and spiritual beings, or the universe b capitalized, Christian Science : GOD 1b
3 : a person's total self
4 a : an active or essential part b : a moving spirit : LEADER
5 a : the moral and emotional nature of human beings b : the quality that arouses emotion and sentiment c : spiritual or moral force : FERVOR
6 : PERSON
7 : EXEMPLIFICATION, PERSONIFICATION
8 a : a strong positive feeling (as of intense sensitivity and emotional fervor) conveyed especially by black American performers b : NEGRITUDE c : SOUL MUSIC d : SOUL FOOD e : SOUL BROTHER

Well thats why. Assuming that souls are real, in the spiritual sense, then they are one or all of the above. Now, it seems as these definisions have to do with ones self conscience (sp?). Cloths dont have a self conscience. They are not self aware. they are not living. But noone can really define a soul, can they? So maybe cloths do have souls. What happens to the cloths' souls when they die. Do they go to heaven or hell? Do they get re-encarnated? Same thing with trains and ships.

Just my opinion, but I just don't see cloths continuing on to the afterlife.

You're forgetting that ghosts aren't physical bodies. They can choose to manifest themselves however they want to. If you intend on appearing to people, especially family members, why wouldn't you wear clothes? That'd be sort of embarrassing to show up stark naked at your granddaughters bedside. Ghosts can also show up in balls of light, or whatever they want.

Another option is the theory that ghosts are simply natural recordings in places where strong magnetic fields are present. This would mean that a ghost isn't a real entity, but just a pre-recorded image that manifests itself in ways we don't understand, like a hologram. Because of this, the ghost is recorded in whatever it wore at the time it was in that location alive.

The last thing I can think of, which I think has been mentioned, is Residual Self Image, as casually discussed in The Matrix. If ghosts don't know they're dead (and most ghostly apparitions tend to be people who died suddenly or violently), then they will appear however they think/remember they look. If they do know they're dead, they may simply continue to keep the same shape in the afterlife that they had all their life anyways. Don't you have a favourite pair of jeans and a t-shirt that are comfy that you'd want to wear forever if you could? Why would ghosts bother transfiguring themselves into horrible naked monsters, when they can just as easily keep on looking how they did in life? After being alive for 30 years, you are pretty used to how your physical body looks, and the style of clothes you wear.

Of course, this is all assuming that ghosts are actually real and people aren't just completely nuts.

What ghosts appear as depends on whatever you happen to be fearing at the moment. Most people aren't afraid of naked people because there can be no weapons hidden unless you have a cavity big enough for a grenade, go figure.
And it may be a pipe dream to think there is an afterlife department store to spend your spirit dollars. But they sell emotions there, and they come in representations of physical ghostly objects. You buy a rock there you get some common sense. Apparently most all the common sense is in Spirit Emporium, cause I'm not seeing a whole lot of it here on earth lately.
