You would find some similarities with Essenians, Cathars and Coptics too.

Gnosticism was around before Christ and preceded the Manichaens and especially Zoroastrians.

There is little doubt that R. Jeshua was of an Essenian sect. John ( the dipper ) was
with out doubt an Essene. Jeshua oft refered to as The Nazorite or Nazorene ( both refer
to offshoot sects of the Essenes), followed the same path, as did the "Church @ Jerusalem".
It was not until the advent of Paul ( the former assasin named Saul)after he got drunk and fell off his ass, and had a vision that the division came. At that point you can see
( for those with eyes to see and ears to hear) the division starts that ends today in the seperation of "Gnostic Christianity" and " Pauline xianity." More basically you have today " what Paul the hitman taught that Jeshua taught" and what "Jeshua actually taught ."

Basically rendered it is a difference between " look out there, somewhere to find the Kingdom of God", and Look within to find the Kingdom". A difference between you must always go through your betters(priests, bishops,etc,etc, THE CLERGY) and the
principle that there is noone or no-thing between YOU and YOUR Creator.
