Sry, if this sounds stupid but I gotta ask it..

When I was like 10 or 12 my dad (a retired chief petty officer in the navy) told me that the President has a secret plane or something called the Doomsday Machine. It's not Air Force One but something of a backup in case a worst case scenario happens the president will board the doomsday machine which is the most heavily fortified plane in the world and can carry any type of missle or bomb including a nuclear warhead. It sounds like a load of crap but i was just wondering if anybody had any insight into this.

Yeah that's partially true. Wikipedia features a pretty in depth article on the "Doomsday Machine" aka Strategic Mobile Command. It is a retro-fitted 747, however cannot carry nor deploy any type of offensive arrmament.

I have heard on two different occaisions that Israeli physicists may have "stumbled" on to a new class of N-weapon around 1986 or 87. Never was anything I found published.
Speculation was that at the time that Excaliber was a "push" project and some researchers in Hifa (forgive the spelling) had a little accident that demonstrated that a planet-buster was a possibility - I heard that from 2 students from UofT under Polanyi - the gist of it was some sort of matter-antimatter device.

Depends on your point of view. The NEECAP and the Looking Glass aircraft and in that same like the Navy's TACAMO planes could fit the Doomsday Plane as they could give the go codes that would launch the ICBMS.

However, this seems to fit the bill a bit better Known as Project Pluto. It would have bene a massive nuclear powerd cruise missile that could travel at Mach 3+ at sea level, stay up for months at a time and in addition to firing off its own nuclear missiles, the radioactive plume and shockwave could do a huge amount of damage.

You're talking about E-4B. Used to be Kneecap (NEACP), now NAOC. They used to travel with the President and park at the nearest base where he was at, so that if he had to get on board they couldn't hit the base AF1 was at and take both planes out at the same time. It's a Gulfstream IV/V that travels with him now, but there are 4 NAOC birds that travel around the world and sit alert as the President travels. When they're on alert they sit with at least one engine running 24/7 until they're replaced by another NAOC.

The reason they were called Doomsday Planes is because they were the planes the President would get on in the event of a nuclear attack. They're the ones that he would launch the retaliatory strikes from.

One of the most technologically advanced weapons in the United States' war chest is the E-4B National Airborne Operations Center (NOAC). This aircraft has many common nicknames including "the doomsday plane", "TCAMO" (Take Charge And Move Out), the "Nightwatch", and "NEACP" (pronounced "Knee Cap" for National Emergency Airborne Command Post). This plane has many myths associated with it but its primary purpose is to provide a safe and livable platform for the President, Secretary of Defense and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs to use as a mobile command post.

Just a question .
If there is a plane the the president could get on in the event of doomsday.
what is to stop it from being blown out of the sky with him on it?

The fact that they orbit at max altitude and out where nothing can get to them to blow them out of the sky.

And what would it run on ?? gas?petrol?electricity??
where would it get tis power from?? and if it was in orbit the people inside would need air.
Just thinking about te subject

The air is recycled, it flies on JP-8 just like every other plane. It refuels in flight from tankers, like most other USAF planes. The only thing limiting the flight time is crew fatigue and oil consumption.

They are. That's the home base of the E-4B and E-6B for the Navy. Used to be the home base of the EC-135s when they were in the inventory. At least the later years they had them.

The plane sitting in front of them is an E-6B belonging to the US Navy. It does a similar job, but it relays orders from the E-4 or Pentagon.

Follow the runway left from the E-6, make the turn and over by the buildings you'll see a B-52 and EC-135 static display.

A little off topic for the E-4B, but here are a couple pictures from Tinker AFB that I found rather interesting. E-3 AWACS in one, B-52H and B-1Bs in the other.

I just have a question about this Doomsday aircraft .
Do u think that it would have any onboared weapons systems??
and if there was mass anarchy on the world below how would Bush and his staff get food and water??

Might seem stupid but i am just thinkn.

Cheers

The only weapons systems onboard are the commo systems that lets the President launch a nuclear attack. This is NOT a long term solution. This is to get him airborne, through the attack, and to a secure facility like NORAD, or somewhere hardened like that.

i see so the president could sort of launch nukes via remote controll??
interesting. also would u know what sort of event would have to ake place in order for the president to boared the craft and impliment such measures??

Any kind of nuclear launch anywhere in the world. Even if he was sitting in NORAD, NMCC, the White House, or anywhere else it would be by remote control. All he does is give the launch codes, and launch order and it's passed down the chain to the guys that actually turn the keys and push the buttons.
