Alright, we all know by now that maybe the war with Iraq wasn't the greatest idea in the world. However, what's done is done and you can't take back what happened. Is there anything the US can do to get out of there without harming both countries?

it can just get out, bathest types will take over in the Sunni Areas and north up past kirkuk, (the Saddam line of control), and shiite groups like alsadr's militia will take control of #te areas and there will be some friction (limited civil war) between the lines of control. should be done immediatly

Unless you can imagine things getting “better” then let us leave quietly. Perhaps send them a check for $100 billion and call it done!

By harming I meant, by making the U.S look worse than we already look.

Now that - a Kurdistan - is going to make the Turks very very angry with the US. We will have screwed up the region in barely 3 year under the magnificent leadership of the Big 3 - Geo W, VP Cheney and the Oberfuhrer. It will take a decade to sort out. Wow!

The least we can do in America is pass a constitutional amendment banning anyone with an MBA from ever running for president again. We owe that bit of penance to the world. And while we’re at that, include banning miscreant sons from following the father in office.

I was in a hurry. That's my only excuse.

Realisticly, it would be better if the US just declaired Iraq a new state.

Don't get me wrong... there's all sorts of reasons why I don't like that idea at all, but in terms of the people living in Iraq and the future stability of the area, anexing Iraq would be the best move.

Removing an existing government and installing a new one has NEVER worked in ALL of history. You only end up with a destabalized nation that becomes a breeding ground for hardship, resentment, and ultimatly violance.

Then again... that could well be the plan.
