Who owns America's Debt?

Theres quite a lot of ill informed blather about the state of the America economy (you know the biggest, most efficient in the world), especially with regards to the notion that China can some how destroy the US economy (never mind the issue of who would by their stuff if they did) by dumping US treasuries.

There's a lot of stupidly on this site, and I as much as I'd like to correct it all, I do have a life to lead and the Red Sox are in town this weekend, but I hope this helps the tiny brains out there in the euro zone.

The wife and I have no debt. Everything is paid off in 30 days and we own everything we have.

If you want to talk trade deficit, I think the US Government owes every penny, without taxpayer assistance, since it spends whatever the h ll it wants without asking the general populace. The legal populace, that is.
