Has anybody seen the recent article on the state of Canadian oil, especially in the oil sands? it said that we are running out of our oil much faster than anticipated because of demand from across the border. i know we have huge ginormous oil deposits, but dont you think they should be regulated a bit more by the government so as we dont run out our selves. something of this importance should not be in the hands of greedy corporations who are solely profit minded. i cant find the story but i keep coming across the fact that there is more and more being developed. any thoughts on this?

I highly doubt the oil sands are running low or will run low for many many many years.

If anything we cant get it out fast enough.

By the time the oil sands are used up, alternatives will be in full force.

I haven't seen the article but if you ever find it again, please post the link. I would be very surprised if they were running low.

Due to a glorious little agreement called NAFTA, we can't cut back on oil shipments to the US unless we cut our own use of domestic oil by an equal amount.

Here's some proven reserve info from today off the net:

"The Oil Sands of Canada hold recoverable reserves of 175 billion barrels with a proven reserve life of 480 years and another 130 billion barrels of potential reserves, which is second only to Saudi Arabia's 262 billion barrels."

And that's just the Oil Sands that we currently have the tech to exploit.
Some folks feel this is a conservative estimate, others don't.

Not according to this map from 2004. We only have 169 billion barrels. Sounds alot to me but it isn't much more than Mexico.

And just look at how much the US imports! Man, they got to sell them SUV's.

i highly doubt that we are running low on oil. i would belive we are running low on conventional crude. But since we can only hope to achive a 3 million barrel extraction rate from the oil sands, they are going no where for quite a while.
