Here is the future of the US Navy. This called the DD-X program. It will produce one of the most advanced ship son the sea. It will be stealthy and deadly. It will have a gun that can fire 50 miles and multiple VMLs.

Here are two articles about it:

www.globalsecurity.org...
peoships.crane.navy.mil...

Here are some pictures:

So do you guys think that this design will prove to be successful? I think so how about you?

Hmm. Surface stealth is one thing; I'd like to see how they plan on neutralizing the submarine threat.

The Navy has been working on this technology for awhile now. The ships are supposed to be smaller, faster and stealth. Now that there is more of a world threat from smaller countries and not the former U.S.S.R. the USA wants to be able to get in to smaller ports. Also the bigger ships make bigger targets. Take out one big ship and you can do heavy damage to the fleet.

Guess we'd have to know more about the "integrated undersea warfare" depicted in the drawing, to draw conclusions...

The Navy is always the last to get upgrades...

Interesting find...

Those pics look pretty cool. It reminds me of civil war era ships. Virtually everything but the gun turrets were underwater.

Will there be any use of them when missiles are getting better and better? Will there be any need for fighter jets if you can launch a missile to down an enemy plane? I doubt it!

The next generation carriers(CN-X) will not be much different that todays. They will have electromagnetic aircraft launchers though.

I was wondering if the Navy had anything remote operated in the works. The Air Force has the Predator and such...

Isn't it obvious what is going on?

they are trying to widen the gap between themselves and everyone else.
