I remember that from when I was a kid! They even made a newer one not too long ago with Bill Paxton of all people.

Could be either. Unfortunately we do not have a higher resolution image, so theres no way of telling. If we could get the coordinates of this image, or better yet of its target, we could see if anything in that region could cause an illusion... if not, then we know theres something there that shouldnt be there.

Yeah Im surprised for all the money we spent on that you'd figure with technology that we can capture images from way up in space we could get a better image on the ground and up close

It could be talc deposits. I don't know if there is talc on mars though.

They look like rocks. Or stones. Or hills. Or small mountains. Or large salt deposits.

I am, therefore I think.

Why that's Iran's new secret weapons -- and they thought they had them hidden from the free world!

Seriously though, a magnified higher resolution pic would help discern what the anomalie(s) is / are. It's really hard to say as it is...

Shhhhh I didn't want to mention it but upon closer examination the tail says SHIHAB XXI
(Before anyone gets carried away..Im joking of course!)

yes thats agreed which Im surpised these rovers were not equipped with higher resolution cams. The MRO has a 1.2Gigapixel resolution! I sure hope they return some interesting photos that may end some of the debates currently out there.

I once said something on a trip to the southwest US( Grand canyon, monument valley) and I think it applies here:
Its just more f@#$ing rocks

After seeing some other pics I thought maybe this object of discussion was a hill with some rocks a bit farther away than the terrain immediately in front of it. I thought it might be a similiar effect to seeing a tall mountain far off in the distance.

On the other hand though, I thought it was only a dream but I did have a dream where I parked my spacecraft in an illegal parking area on Mars. I deny it all though.

Is it a screencap from "Tarantula" with clint eastwood?

Using more schemes and options in Photoshop than I ever have with one pic, and viewing with a screen magnifyer (no pixel degradation), all I can see is a rock.

As for the layout of this "craft" - I've not been here too long yet have already coined the phrase "think outside the box" several times.
What I mean is "engine in back, cockpit in front", another post about looks like TieFighter (space craft with wings, lmao) or a jet fighter - you are using the way HUMANS construct to see alien craft. Like the thread about 'why do UFO's need landing lights" - is it unthinkable that they are not lights?

It's a huge universe ........ think outside box.

It was the best way I could describe it. The 3 black points in the back would normally be where an engine would be. The 2 black blobs in front appeared to look like a cockpit. It very well could be rocks. I went back and checked the raw images but the order of pictures had skipped from 769 to 772 so it seemed to have skipped a few Sols and the rover was no longer in the same position of course. Maybe they will post up the missing Sols after they process them, I hope and we can get a better image.

(snip)

I am not saying it is not, I am saying I reeeeally don't think it is. I could get no more than a rock with a lot of photo manipulation.

If it's not apparent which side of the fence I am on of this whole Mars life issue, when I look at Mars photos, I look for things that do NOT look human. Space craft need no wings, no fins, engines don't have to be in back (I mean, c'mon, it's alien techonolgy, our mind may not even be able to comprehend what they may use as propulsion, it may not even be considered propulsion, as their means of travel); structures don't have to be square (or even visable); runways may not be a needed factor; water very well may NOT be the base factor of life (this one rages me of scientists, this belief that water MUST be present for life to exist - that's life on EARTH !!); etc etc.

I simply think this one is ............ just a rock.

You can be of course 100% right. A plant there may very well look like a pebble for all we know. An animal, microbe or bug could be right there staring us right in the face and we possibly wouldn't recognize it,
It does look so earth-like though its all kind of hard to think of such a big place like that being so desolate. Almost as if it would be like a waste of space if it wasn't inhabitated by something or other at one time.

I'm all about finding evidence of life on Mars. But, this really does just seem a picture of a hill of natural stones or terrain. Sometimes even I tend to be easily convinced , but a spacecraft , just seems a bit farfetched.

I see two crafts dead center with widows, though could just be rocks with stragne shiny regions apppearing to be windows.

If anyone thinks this is anything but rocks...

This thread is a complete waste of bandwidth like seriously people no matter which way you look at it i see rocks no shiny objects or anything that resembles a craft.
