BIG BROTHER Google

Anyone want a job with Google? They are building a Midwest Regional Center and will emply 10,000 people in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Just southeast of the site about 60 miles is an abnormal coinsidence. What is so interesting is that The Battle Creek Air National Guard Base is getting a new mission in May 06. Anyone wanna guess what this mission will be? It will be a sophisticated DCGS Facility. In another words a spook house for spying. It is ironic that the timing and planning is so close.

Since you brought up the topic, maybe you could provide us with some of the research you've come across?
I live in Michigan and would like to hear more about this

My wife works with several bankers that have financed the project. Since she deals with large financial sums of money, someone she knows blew the pooch on this one. I hate Google as I know the government works closely with them. That is why I am posting this because everyone thinks Google is playing the "hard to get" game meaning the news about turning over web addresses and names of people like us. When I first posted this, the page kicked me out and there was some special coding on the ATS Headline that had a local town name where I reside. That is just too strange. Anyway, apparantly Google is being tight-lipped about the whole thing. The constuction has already started. The location is near the Grand River in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I can't talk much about the DCGS mission at Battle Creek ANG, because Air Force has not set it in stone, but I can say that there will be 300-400 full intel personnel working at the spook house in a 35,000 sq ft facility. By 2008-09, all the A-10s will go to Selfridge.

[sarcasm]Oh, I can hardly wait [/sarcasm]
How many are we talking here?
I don't mind so much having the ANG nearby, but more noise I don't need

All together, there will be 24 A-10'S AT Selfridge. They are getting rid of their lawn darts. It was a real politcal move by democrats to remove all aircraft resources to the east side. I will see if I can get more info on that Google construction site. The DCGS mission has been approved, but awaiting a manning document. It is supposed to be delived in May.

Also as a resident of Michigan, West to be exact, will see if there is anything local being said. Considering this is the first I have heard, don't hold your breath.

Perhaps not ironic, considering all of the base closings, it fits together money wise. They had to pay for all the new soon to be facilities some how. Out with the old, in with the new, nothing could be more true.

I will see if I can get close enough to take pictures and post them here. Its really a hush-hush project. I really don't understand why either. Maybe Google wants to hire outside first and bring their own people in. Then, whatever is left over, the people of Michigan can apply. There has to be someone out there that has more info.

I'll keep my eyes open, too.
I live close enough to Selfridge. There should be some local news interest.

I live on Selfridge (hooray?) and I've known about the A-10 move for about a year now. They are taking the place of the F-16 emergency response squad. Why those are being moved, I don't know, but I do know that their mission is to be in the air within minutes of any kind of attack to defend whatever interests the government has in our area. I think the Hogs are supposed to be here by '07, but I could be wrong. I'll ask around and see what I can find.

Hey, I live a bit south of you and am glad you guys are so near...even when your guys make noise

So, basically, Selfridge is looking at a faster response time?
How large an area does the base cover/patrol?

That's cool. Glad to see Southeastern Michigan being represented here on ATS! As for the A-10's, I'm pretty sure they are anti-tank planes, and the F-16's are primarily anti-air assets as far as I know. Like I said, I'm not sure where they are going, but I do know that the base they take orders from is in upstate New York. I got to see their little command center during the Super Bowl, it was quite a sight!

To be honest, my dad would know more about this than I, seeing as he's the one who is actually in the military and knows these guys and what they do way better than I, but unfortunately he is asleep so I'll have to get back to you tomorrow.

The F-16's at Selfridge are going away in retirement by 2007-08. The 16 A-10's at Battle Creek will go to Selfridge along with six A-10's from Willow Grove, Penn. Two more A-10's will come from another Guard Base to make a total of 24. Battle Creek will then get a super spy center watching the entire world by satelite and AWACS called DCGS. It suppose to be a major command center for high level top secret operations.

I live ~10/15 minutes northeast of GR. Almost scary to hear something like this nearby

Edit: Perhaps the A-10's are what I've been seeing flying over my house occasionally. I think due north a little bit from me is an arial test fly-zone as well (not sure why the military would use it, it might be pretty small, but~). Didn't know what A-10's looked like so I checked on some images. Usually one will fly over and another shortly after, but they've been single before.
