(CNN) -- Turning images on your PC into real-life computer chips with your home printer sounds like science fiction, yet the first prototype is already in operation.

Dubbed Santa Claus machines, these three dimensional printers "print" real objects instead of messages -- but never before have electronics been included in a product.

Soon fully assembled electric and electronic gadgets could be constructed in one go without having to add the components at great cost afterwards.

This is like having your own Construct...I wonder if they will come out with something that prints synthetic skin or fur/hair in the near future....

Sounds like they want to get high first.

Somehow I dont think a device like that woudl ever be allowed into public hands. I would think it would allow consumers to simply sit at home and make what ever they needed, instead of going to the store to buy it. Surely that would have a negative impact on the economy if the trend was wide-spread. Other than that, very cool concept, I would love to have one to print up RAM and HDDs for my computers

If it turns out they can manufacture these machines and make a profit,it will be too expensive for the common man to afford,just like aircraft are and always will be.
