OMG!! If anyone here knows me, you know I HATE bugs right?! Well I just went out into my livingroom and there are ladybugs everywhere!! I've never seen anything like it! Would anyone know why they have come into my home and brought 10 generations along with them? And how can I get them out? For good? Is this a northern thing? Because I've never seen this anywhere in the south

are they bright red ladybugs, or brownish ones? the brownish ones suck. we get tons of them here this time of year (I think they dump them on the cornfields or something), and they're all over the place. I've only seen it happen around MSU, though, so I always assumed it had something to do with the fields around here.

Seriously ya'll I just swept nearly all of them up & outside and they are reappearing all over again? How are they getting in for one, and why?

Asian Lady Beetles.

Use a shopvac with no beater bars. Do not squash them.

Hope this link helps.

HELP INVASION

They are searching for a comfy place to hang out. I could be a little too chilly outside for them. Any small cracks in window frames, screens, etc can allow them to get in. Do a search on the web for 'ladybird beetle'. There is lots of info. I saw one sight suggest a vacume cleaner.

Crap, a little too slow on the draw!

What's up with that??
just kidding, I'm just happy to share my frights with you all and that your kind enough to care..

The article said they'll be around until Halloween?? Ohh hell no! Ohh and it said they burrow in your vents and anywhere warm? This is a nightmare I tell you! I swear to you, I despise bugs especially ones that bite and come in groups..

I don't mind biting ones UNLESS they come in groups. I do usually hate bugs though.

My problem is that a guy a few miles away had bee boxes (you know for getting honey). Well, my home is "sunnydale" yellow. A bunch of worker bees burrowed into the wooden siding (before I bought the house). Last year, they moved the queen in. Now every year I get to do the Tommy Boy vacuum scene with honey bees. Next project, new siding (metal or vinyl) and replace all insulation and plywood while removing beehives.

YAY.

So I feel your pain Mag.

This happens to some friends of mine every year.
How old is your house? How long have you lived there?

Most likely they are nesting and you probably won't get rid of them without an exterminator coming for a couple years.

Sorry

yeah, they're those Asian beetle things. they actually EAT the real ladybugs, which are nice. these little bastards are evil. they absolutely swarm around East Lansing, MI this time of year (and according to a thread on another board, a LOT of other places too), and it's the biggest pain ever. I think they eat aphids, so they dump them on nearby fields. but once the aphids are gone and it gets colder outside, they go completely insane.

Mags,

I've found, I do not lie, 12 ladybugs in my house in the last two days...

...But, i've read that they're good for gardens, so don't smoosh them. rather, let them loose in the back.

I live in cozy Westchester Co, NY. This time of year, the ladybug invasion starts. It gets cold and they SOMEHOW manage to get in (i think through the chimney). I hate them too and always vacuum them up. Year after year, the SAME thing. Darn these ladybugs, they suck.

that's just it. they aren't ladybugs. they're Asian lady beetles, and unlike true ladybugs which are harmless and nice, the lady beetles BITE! they also smell awful when you squish them. they're pests in the extreme.

Yeah they were everywhere!! But I burned some incense and turned the ceiling fan on then went to sleep, woke up and now they are nearly all gone?! Hehe! Guess they don't like incense

Thanks all for your advice, I REALLY do appreciate it!

It happens here from time to time... They are released to fight pests... call your local extension office and see if there was a recent release.. .more than likely that is it, if not then who knows

They are insane here in Michigan also, many of them are not "real" lady bugs at all. They are import or as it is stowaways from asia, japan maybe. Any hows, they are here for insect control, they eat the bugs that kill the trees...that were also unnatural to this country. Infestation is more the word for these little fellas.

To completely get rid of them, you going to have to get under the sideing on the house as the are nesting within that part o the home this time of year.

They do bite but is not poisonious, they were transplated and got out of control simply due to the fact they don't have a natural preditor out side of the birds species. If they get in the house, they will multiply even worse because they are trying to get where it's warm to breed. The sideing is the best bet if you want to get rid a H U G E portion of there numbers. Good luck though!
