Thanks for answering my questions.

I do beleive this is all due to the bad bad ratings this president is getting, and this is his way of trying to score points. Photo Ops by the military ONLY. No reporters, etc.

He's getting desperate and extremely predictable.

Perhaps the reason the media is off limits is because the War is not longer about insurgency but rather cleansing the country from the undesirables that are against the majority ruling now in Iraq and anybody else that doesn't want the new government in Iraq.

With this assault and US troops involvement is easier to tone down the civil war and tag all the trouble makers insurgents.

Rather than just sectarian fights.

A civil war would not look good on the Coalition record of bringing democracy into devastated Iraq.

But fighting insurgency will.

No it means that the troops on the ground dont have to worry about protecting a civillian which means they can concentrate on their mission. How many combat missions have you been on?
I spent 7 years in the Marine Corps
