Old thread but I wanted to add Starman, I know its basically a love story but it had such a huge effect on me. I would like to believe that alien life forms will be peaceful, caring, holistic beings. The power to resurect the dead, wow!
And lets not forget E.T.!!! ET Phone home...
Also K-Pax which is on Scifi right now and brought me to this thread.

I would also like to say that I love and adore Stephen King but sometimes his works should just stay in the written form, ex. Dreamcatchers.

How do others feel TV and Film accurately portray what may be out there? or is it just Hollywood? Is Spielberg helping or hurting us?lol

cowboy bepop is probally a good example. Maybe it will be like that in the future were we hit a point were we start moving from earth. And some people can fly space vehicles
.

predator is quite plausible

"batteries not included" is good film that shows different aspect of aliens, suggest that the first alien contact will probably be artificial intelligence due to vast distances between galaxies, this is the most likely scenario accepted by experts and scientists.

Independence day is another likely scenario but the film was very cheesy.

War of the worlds is a good film but an unlikely scenario, logically and scientifacllly.

My best space movies would be:

1. Galaxy Quest. Show leadership, comradeship and Gwen De Marco's
faulty translater in the 'chompers' scene.
Also, what was Guy's surname?
2. Space Cowboys. This movie shows that nobody should be
left behind, even the old codgers.
3. Fire In The Sky. Kurt Russell plays an excellent fire-man
who seeks out wrong-doing in the department.
4. The Explorers. 3 kids who try to touch the face of God.
5. Batteries Included... oh wait, that's an entirely different movie.
6. Flight of The Navigator, Roswellian metal and the kid out of
The Wonder Years.
7. Aliens Cut My Hair. er... well it's about aliens.
8. Starship Troopers. 'Cos I've been to Hell's Half Acre.
9. Santa Claus Conquers The Martians. For that famous quote
"Now I've got a machine gun Ho Ho Ho"

Lots of people are listing "Fire in the Sky" as one of the most realistic movies out there.

I really hope your not saying that because it's "based on a true story".

The plot and events in the movie bear very little resemblance to what Mr. Walton claims actually happened. Last I heard, Walton was upset that they took so many liberties when making the movie based on his story.

His account of the tale can be read on Wikipedia.

The real story reads like something from Adamski.

Hey, this is a good discussion thread. I've never heard of "Fire In The
Sky", but after reading what has been said here, it seem to be a must
have DVD. Thankyou.

Based on the movies that I've seen, I feel that this Star Trek movie
www.startrek.com...
(minus the BORG aspect) depicts when we will be taken seriously
by space faring races. Once we are able to travel at a certain speed,
or manner, Earthlings will be contacted openly, instead of merely being
studied like we are now.

Does anyone here on ATS have "insider" knowledge? So far, we're
all just guessing based on hunches. There must be some real contactees
in our midst who can say which movie is most like your experience, or
similar to what ET Visitors have conveyed to you? If there is no such
movie in existance yet, maybe you can be the catalyst to get it produced.

I would have to say Star Trek first Contact because of that awesome scene at the end when the Humans meet the Vulcans, it shows a peaceful encounter with aliens without any violence from either side.
Also that one Chirstopher Walken was in 'Communion' that was good at the start but the rest of it was really wierd didn't know what was going on in that film

I'd have to say Fire In The Sky

I'd have to go with Communion.

1) A L I E N (director's cut)

2) A L I E N S (director's cut)

3) A L I E N_3 (director's cut)

4) A L I E N _ R E S S U R E C T I O N (theatrical version)

Post Script: I am not including the poorly constructed "Alien VS. Predator" because it was simply too retarded beyond belief.

Intruders

Most definatly the most informative and watchable movie out there about alien abductions.
This movie was probably one of the bigger reasons I became interested in UFO's/Aliens.
It has an unforgettable scene in it, about a young boy they follow into the woods. Those who have seen it know what I'm talking about. EVERYONE remembers this bit - it's rather terrifying!

If you haven't seen it, do yourself a favour and go hire it out! No, infact, BUY it, you will want to see it again

K-Pax was also a good one, thought provoking

Wasn't a big fan of Fire In The Sky.......

I'm glad SEEWHATUDO mentioned Starman, I liked that as a kid as well. I loved the idea that he was an alien responding to the message we sent into space in the VoyagerII. I remember watching it a lot on video around the time Halley's Comet flew by.

Also mentioned was Flight of the Navigator, since then it's been a dream of mine to fly a space ship.

Not sure if this was mentioned yet, but Critters is on my list of favorites. I only saw the 1st one -- believe me, one was enough, but it did scare the crap out of me back then.

Predator 1 with Arnie, what a classic.

And also, Dark City is an excellent sci-fi movie about aliens. If you haven't seen it I don't want to spoil it, but the plot is based around a human city created, observed, and manipulated by aliens. Good flick, highly recommended.

Those are my favorites, though I can't vouch for how plausible the aliens in these films are...speaking of plausibility, does anyone know what this is a clip of? Is it a movie or some hoax video? The alien hand at the end looks quite "plausible." (It's only 22 seconds long)

I was just looking in this thread and was horrified that most people were naming this as one of the most realistic movies. I'm glad to see that someone looked a bit further into the subject beyond just the movie, which has taken enormous liberties with the original story.

Please read the book or just check out the website of Mr Walton to get info on what he claims really happened. Ie, there were no mean aliens, no "cocoons" with half rotten people in, no weird horrific machines, no probes, no dangling mid-air children footwear floating around (geez, talk about over the top), no operation, no space suits that looked like greys, no aliens looking like the aliens in the movie.

Fire in the Sky, the movie, is pure entertainment, as much "based on true events" as The Exorcism of Emily Rose.

Read about it: www.travis-walton.com...

The most "horrific" about the real story is that he gets upset, can't tell where he is and pummels one of the "greys" who then runs away. That's it. That's about all the horror in his story. And after that he is greated by, according to him, beautiful and friendly humanoids who, with his "blessing" puts him to sleep and returns him to earth.

Exciting? Not really, thats why Hollywood had to spice it up.

As for the thread, I think contact made a lot of sense (and in some, not so much). As for likely scenarios and so on...all in all I'd say Star-Trek, where we get contacted when we become a type 1 civilization "over night", what happens after that, well that's just good TV.

Right my turn. In no particular order:

1. ET
2. Close Encounters Of The Third Kind
3. V
4. Starman
5. Ailen
6. Contact

There was also a film i watched in the late 1980's but for the life of me
i cannot remmeber the name of it. Basically it starts off with a UFO crashing in the desert. American miliatary retrieve it and puts it in a hanger for investigation and study. then the decision is taken to destroy the UFO's and an aircraft bombs the hell out of the hanger (i think this was CIA vs military) Anyhow the scientists inisde the ailen craft are astonished that the UFO's are able to withstand the bombardment and toward the end of the film they unlock the UFO secrets with film of humanity and industrial buildings/oil rigs and one of the scientists suddenly realises that the ailens are comming back and the film ends with one of them saying "my god, they're comming back".. cue weird music and fade out implying to the viewer that either they are comming back to invade or make open peaceful contact;. if anyone knows the name of the film i would be immensly grateful!! been bugging me for years !!

The most realistic by far is Whitley Streiber's Communion... because it is true...
Also Mothman Prophecies and a distant third is Fire in the sky, because they exadurated and added stuff for effect...Whitley wasn't lying about what happened, cuz it happend to me too and is ongoing...

I was thinking the other day in re-hab about
great Alien scenes... here's some, whadya think?

"Maybe we could light a camp fire, you know...
sing a few songs"
"Oh gosh Elliot, you're flowers meltin"
"What's it all about A.L.F?"
"Head for the chopper!" and "if it bleeds,
we can kill it"
"Never mind the generators, what about the
chick with 3 b**bs!"

and finally, "Open the pod-bay doors Al"...
from Quantum Leap.

I am kind of surprised no one has mentioned 'Signs' by M Night Shamalan (sp?) starring Mel Gibson.
Also, I just watched it not too long ago, THE X-FILES MOVIE. All about world leaders covering-up a global conspiracy about an alien virus.

E.T. The Extraterrestrial. I'll always remember that movie, its what made me become interested in UFO's.

It Came From Outer-Space, a tale about a man ridiculed for thinking a flying saucer crashed in Arizona, but when people start disspapearing only to return a few days later with odd robot like behaviour, it isnt so funny anymore.

The Forgotten was pretty good.

Many episodes from the Twilight Zone series had me going wild with all the twist endings.

And finally War of The Worlds.

-Jimmy-

But my overall pick has to be X-Files.

Interesting picks! Lighthearted fun too...
Most of my picks are on the dark side, as I feel in what awaits us someday...
1-Alien. Great story, humans all around space in dank ship, and finding the nasty alien on a dark, cold, rock.
2-Dreamcatcher. Military taking out landing sites for some time, aliens running around in boondocks as choppers open fire, wildlife running...could see it.
3-The Thing. (one and two) Frozen wasteland. Ship thousands of yrs. old found. Bad things. Again could see happen.
4.-Event Horizon. Deep space mission lost was found. Very disturbing results.
5.-2001- A Space Odyssey. Amazing story. Another head melt, as I feel is the final solution in our times someday....
6.-Day the Earth Stood Still. A great feel good, wish flick. Classic.
7.-Close Encounters...another mush fest, but great ending, different ships from the mother.
8.-Twilight Zone Episode. Could be #1, remember it from childhood by the late, great Rod Serling. Old woman living in a shack is horrified by small creatures running around, kills most with broom. Some escape to ship in attic. As it takes off, USAF seen on ship...
