Man, thats about the worst presentation of scientific research that i've seen in a while. No wonder people have such a hard time understanding science.

A lot of scientific discoveries come from something that was completely accidental. I'm not saying that science itself is an accident, just that a lot of accidents turn into important discoveries. This was probably the case here- they found something mildly interesting on accident and thought that maybe it could have some relevance.
