I agree that you are your own self in lucid dreams, I was really referring to dreams prior to them becoming lucid, that an alternate self seems to exist.

It does often seem as if the life I'm leading in a dream is an alternate reality. The dreams are as real as every day life, and I forget about my life here completely, until I wake up. If alternate universes are a reality, I would guess that we would have dreams connected to other realities.

i dream just about every time i fall asleep. they are so real to me i have always thought that i was the only one with such vivid dreams.i have tried to describe the richness of them to family ,but, they just dont get how vivid they are . i always feel that i am living just another part of my life through my dreams. for awhile i though i was depressed or something because i so looked forward to dreaming again. until i realized i wasn't looking forward to sleeping .i truly was looking forward to my dreams.oh, sometimes they come true.

I've been going through the routine of looking at my hands throughout the day until it becomes habit. I seem to be at that stage now, thus in theory it should happy often enough in my dreams to make me realise I'm dreaming, but alas, in several weeks now it has only happened once that I looked at my hands in my dreams through habit. Another example to me of an alternate self existing which doesn't always behave the way I'd expect.

An alternate self? I'd have to say more like the real self, the unsuppressed self. The self that wants to be, but is held in check by the 'rational' side. Apollo rules the day, at night though, is when Dionysus comes out to play.

I dont know that I would call it an alternate self. More like your pure self. Dreams are like school in a way. When you sleep, you let your guards down. You play out your wants and fears. By doing that you get to see the end results of your actions. By living out your fears you will eventually understand that there is nothing to fear. Either way, you will learn a lesson about life that weather you remember your dream or not you will use in real life. In other dreams, you let your guard down enough that angels and spirits can teach you or show you things that will help you in events down the road.

SO, to sum up, if you want to call one or the other your alternate self then it would be your awake and guarded self. The self that has walls, doubts, and reason. Your asleep self is pure and unguarded. It is who you really are. Vulernable to all energies and possablities.

If you leave yourself open and unguarded and vulnerable when going to sleep, don't be surprised to wake up feeling less than pure apon waking.

Many of the nightmares (negative dreams) people experience, can be looked apon as attacks from 'negative sources', even if they do have an apparent correlation to the goings on of your waking life.
Ever had a headache upon awaking? (without drinking the night before)

To try and combat this alternative self, I have been trying to pay attention to events in my dreams that I realise are unusual whilst in the dream rather than thinking back retrospectively once I awaken. The intention is to unveil enough of these occurrances to allow me to become lucid at will. My alternate self is proving quite a challenge to fool though.

Well, Have you noticed that you never actually see yourself in your dreams??? You are just aware that you are there. Its called you subconcieous self!!

Well, I almost always see myself in my dreams; not 100% of the time, of course but about 80% or so. Sometimes I view myself as if i were observing my actions and the actions of others from outside myself, although I always know that it is myself I am observing. Sometimes I will catch my reflection in a bathroom mirror or the face of a still pond, but i usually know what I look like in my dreams and the freaky part is that I don't always look like my waking self! I am someone else altogether in a place that I know Iv'e never been before, or at least remember being but the place or events seem completely natural to me.

Peace,

Yes, Yes, Yes!!!- Thank you Tigerla5. I wondered if there was anyone else out there who had the same experience as I do. I also begin my dreaming as soon as i am asleep and I never have been able to explain to anyone the vividness of my dreams; sometimes they seem more real than my waking life and I have asked myself whether maybe what I think of as "reality" is actuallyan illusion and my dreams are the real thing-lol.
Now that I know I'm not the only "kook"on the planet, I feel so good I think I'll go to bed and see "who" I'll be tonight.

Dreams to me are one of the greatest forms of entertainment. I have also seen myself in my dreams mostly as a child or my present self but i have also seen my self much much older with my grand kids. I have met everyone of my past girlfriends and my fiance in my dreams. All with in a year of meeting them in person.

I think i will head to bed now to see what my dreams bring me.

I often hear of people talking about having pre-cognitive dreams. I haven't had them as such, but my alternate self is having a variation on this where future dreams are being foretold by earlier ones. Rather than foretelling of a future event to happen in the physical realm, it tells of a future event to happen in the dream world.
