THE man tipped to be the first black pope has set out his credentials as the Vatican continues to prepare the public for the death of Pope John Paul II.

Following comments from top Vatican official Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger that the Pope was in "very bad" health, the Pope's private secretary Georg Gaenswein said yesterday the 83-year-old pontiff could not walk or stand.

So far it's only in the "could happen" catagory, but I think this milestone is long overdue. Catholics span the world, it's about time we had a Pope that wasn't a European white guy.

It at least shows that everybody can be catholic. Not saying that is the best or only religion, but showing that the Vatican is branching out. Or whomever it is has been groomed for the job by, shall we say, other groups? COUGH Illu... COUGH

I also think it would be a good thing to see the new Pope as something other than White/European.

I am also not Catholic either and so I have no idea what Catholic's feel about that happening.

I would hope that if it did happen it would be a milestone in abolishing racism. However I fear that the "Anti-Christ" idea would come to mind for some and cause a real big mess!

I used the antichrist line because I know people will think it.

I think an alien invasion is what we all need, that way we will quit hating eachother based on religion race etc , unite and all be racists towards hostile aliens.... of course we probably wouldn't and would still hate eachother then we all die and or become slaves to them.

but I mean it's not really racism its more of spiecism amongst humans right?

ah i'm rambling.... wish i could go to sleep.

I wonder if a Black Pope would start a Holy War between "Old School" Mormon followers and the Vatican and it's followers?

This is from a Mormon based site, and is what I include as evidence for my "pure fiction" assumption...

The Lord segregated the people both as to blood and place of residence. At least in the cases of the Lamanites and the Negro we have the definite word of the Lord Himself that he placed a dark skin upon them as a curse -- as a punishment and as a sign to all others. He forbade intermarriage with them under threat of extension of the curse. And He certainly segregated the descendants of Cain when He cursed the Negro as to the Priesthood, and drew an absolute line. You may even say He dropped an Iron curtain there....

I think modern Mormons have rejected those old racist teachings. I don't think it was very long ago that they changed, though.

Of course...That is why I also included the link so as not to mislead anyone. This was dated 1954 however so it's not as though it's ancient history or anything.

I do not think that it is a matter or black or white. There are alot of other groups of people that have not been the Pope either. My feelings are that whoever will be the next Pope will do so because he is the right person for our religion - he is the right person for the church - and he wants the job to due the right thing and not just get promoted due to the fact he is the next in line. There are a lot of good things that our church does; but there is also a lot of things bad that the church does also and they should not be looked over.

I have never seen a black nun here in the U.S. are there any?

They don't need a Pope at all. Why would anybody want to worship another man?
What would Jesus say about that? Fools!
