Why do UFOs Have Running Lights?

I'm just curious. If UFO pilots don't want to land and say "hi," then why do they fly around at night lit up like a Led Zeppelin concert?

If UFOs are in league with the Pentagon, the Illuminati, the Repblican Party and Hewlett Packard, all of whom claim that UFOs don't exist, then why doesn't the government tell their alien buddies to shut their friggin lights off?

maybe light is their fuel source, and they make their own light to travel at the speed of light. Duh.

And why is it that you ASSUME that they are from outer space?
Is it because you see them and hear of them in the sky?
Could they be from INNER SPACE and you only see them in the air?

ever see a movie about jungle tribesmen who see jets and believe they are Gods from outer space? They think that because they don't see them take off or land. they only see them in the air, so they assume they are from outer space. Maybe you are no smarter than a jungle native? lol

It's probably because those lights are vital to the flight of the ship in some way. Or the government just gets a thrill out of denying plain evidence.

By the way, there is a complete forum devoted to aliens and UFOs. This thread should be there.

I always felt the same way about the USS Enterprise on Star Trek. Why do you need flashing lights on it? So another space ship doesn't hit it when it is travelling at warp 5?

Maybe all aliens are girls and they just like the pretty lights.

But hey, the answer could be simple.
It could be either to see where they're going, some kind of energy related thing, or a form of exhast.

well for one, they like to throw the truth in our faces, but they still deny it so they can say.. your mental.. im gona put you in a psyco home!

or it could be that the aliens stole our technology and are using it agaist us? one of there lights blew and need us to make a new one :|

I would think that if UFOs had running lights on them, it would probly be for the same reason our flying machines have running lights, and that would be so that they are visible to other craft. Yes, you may not actually see the running lights at warp 5, but maybe the lights are especially used while traveling lesser speeds. As you know, it is manditory for all flying craft to have running lights, doesn't matter what dimension, solar system, craft, or religeon you are.

Mabye there is an interstellar law requiring the use of turn signals?

Seriously though, given that we know next to nothing regarding alien tech, it is possible that the lights that are witnessed are simple byproducts of these crafts propulsion system...an extra-terrestrial smoky tail-pipe.

That is 1 way you can tell if its a craft that made on earth , civil and military aircraft have certain lights that they must have. If you see certain lights on a aircraft at night you could tell if its civil or military if you know what to look for, a rotating red light (like police light) is anti collision light etc.

What makes (anyone) you think that we are visited by extrateresrtials? Consider this; Some where in the future, someone from our world invents a space craft that can travel fast enough to go back in time. A sort of "Tour bus" of a sort. See history unfold, look at dinosours, etc. I would believe this over "outside visitors" due to the fact that our planet is so very far away from the nearest star, I doubt any life out there would make the effort, if there were life in the area.

Where ever ufos/usos come from perhaps the running lights or other flashing lights are a signal of somesort,maybe like a morse code and the occupants are waiting to see if any one is clever/wise enough to decipher it.

Just a theory.

Here's my 2 cents worth. Camouflage. Seen at a distance, it would appear to be an aircraft, and you would ignore it...right up until it comes down and eats your head (apologies to Blondie, I can't sing).

Camouflage does seem to me to be the most logical explanation. See something in the nightsky, stop to look, then see the blinking lights, and say to self..."self, that's just an airplane." Meanwhile, the alien spaceship goes along on its merry way.

Ufo's light up so humans can see them. Cloaking is a behavior they use frequently. "Why" they cloak themselves is the real mystery.

I'm going to throw out something that all the believers will argue with because of their preconceived notions of humanoid aliens.

Maybe aliens don't see light. If they don't see visible light, they may not even KNOW they are clearly visible.

After all, to certain insects, your UV remote control fires all kids of light each time you change the channel. Yet YOU don't think of it as a light source.

So if watching TV makes some species see us as crazed ravers with flashing remotes, why couldn't we be the same to aliens.

Of course those that also thing random evolutionary events on other planets lead to humanoid will disagree. I'm sure there is tons of proof aliens see only visible light.

Maybe its the law? Maybe they just suck at flying and always have theyre turn signal on? Maybe thats why theyre eithing flying all erattic, or just flying slow and low to the ground.

the law of intergalactic travel clearly states that as you fly thru another species sky, you must observe any and all craft lighting laws, so as to keep the "non knowing" in the dark...

it is all part of the treaty...

Actually, any ship with the capability of docking should have running lights. This is explained on many a Star Trek FAQ board.
