I am not sure what their strength is but but their defence budget is about $90 million , thats going against the U.S $439million I think at the present the U.S is spending more on defence than the rest of the world combined.

Ive heard from several news sources in the past few days that Chinas military budget is actually about 3 times larger than they publish. So more like 270 bln. Still not up with the US, but getting up there.

It's as I just said about $90million they published $30million, so still a long way to go to the U.S.

One has got to remember that doing things in China is much cheaper, and I don't think the Chinese military buys $2000.00 toilet seats either. People would get executed over bad purchases like that.

When one considers Chinese folks get paid like 2-3 bux a day, that's a crap-load of cheap labour, they can manufacture everything at a fraction of the cost.

So I would assume their military budget goes at least 10X further than the US military budget does.

They also have the people and the infrastructure to build a mighty military machine on a real short notice.

I think they see a war coming. (a big one)

Oh ok, I misenterpretted, my bad. 90 Bln., it probably does go much further than the US military budget does. Interesting, it may go much further in quantity, but what about quality? Do the Chinese have the same quality controls the US has in place?

Look at everything around you that has been manufactured, look at the label, 90% of the time it says 'made in China'.

Would you not say that the 'quality' of those things are pretty good?

My computer I bet is all chinese made, and the quality is pretty good.

The Chinese are quite capable of quality.

(and quantity)

What I meant was for their military, to be able to produce the same quality stuff the US has for its military in the same quantity. Given their much cheaper labor, but what about R&D costs in China, anyone got a clue about that?

I was thinking along the line of electronics for weaponry, if they gots the electronics down, I'm sure they've got the other quality down pat as well.

What is that song in the first video, that has got to be the spookiest song ever made, it's Russian is it not?
I'd like to DL it.

ive always been under the illusion that chinas navy and airforce were complete crap how good is thier navy and airforce?

My theory has always been quality over quantity. I mean the Chinese may have a huge military with an equally huge budget ... But do they have the ability to do anything that would have a real impact. I am in the Canadian military and we have one of the smallest budgets for nation so large but we have top quality soldiers because we have to adapt. We dont have the luxury of having one soldier to screw in a lightbulb and two more to hold the ladder if you see what I mean.

You mean million...you keep typing billion.

and no...the US does not have a bigger defense budget of the rest of the world combined...thats just a rumor.

China does have a crappy Navy, but its growing...but its still just a blue water Navy (Meaning it doesn't cover earths oceans).
There Ary is rediculous....reported at 1 billion....except for the fact they wouldn't have enough guns for everyone.

Most of there equiptment is old soviet era stuff. They have virually on satellite infastructure in place to have a modern day war.

$439billion the US spends per year then?

what do the UK spend?? - i know the UK are the 2nd highest funder of Military Research & Development behind the US.

This thread is to find out there strength...Not about going to war.

The US has heavy economical ties to China, something it didn't have during the cold war with Russia...People always put the US Vs. China things up...when I dont wver see that hypothetical war ever happen.

The only chance that the US has to go to war with Chine it over Taiwan...about whether or not there apart of China, or a seperat free, non communist country. But I still dont think China would attack the US, They kn ow they would get there ass handed to them...and thats even conventional weapons only.

Your assertions show a gross lack of military understanding. In the 21st century (also 20th), it isn't about who has the most soldiers, it's the ability to project power globally. A recent example are the iraq wars. In both wars, iraq had many more troops than the Coalition forces and in the first Gulf war, they also had the finest soviet equipment and tactics, but the Coalition went through them like a hot knife through butter. china has a lot of troops (and soviet equipment and tactics), but the question is how to equip them and get them anywhere but china?

Hopefully, there will be no war, but if there is, china is where the chinese troops will die.

all this talk about their money and defense budget is..
its all referring to the "UNITED STATES" money/value..they(china) uses yen? is it? something like that right? but anyways they don't always need money based on U.S. form to say purchase different things like say russia and such right?
each country all have different forms of money like euros and what not..90 million..but that's if they were to get stuff from the United States..currency exchange right?

Centurion hit it right on the head.

The name of the game is power projection. China has almost no abillity to project any power it might have - it simply does not have the logistical system.

Think of China like a young athletic talent. He may be big, physically strong, fast - basically have all of the potential in the world. How ever, you put that prospect up against a seasoned veteran all-star, and he will get abused.

So to is the comparison betwen China and the US. China is the prospect, the US is the all-star.

The US simply has better total quallity and sophistication. We have litterally hundreds of military capabilities that China isn't even close to.

Dude, that would be more than half their budget!

They say something like 30bn, cia claims it's like 70bn, some pentagon guy claims it's like 150bn, i really don't know.

Anyway, they have #loads of troops, not that many tanks (comapred to the US), not that many planes (compared to the US), not that many ships (compared to the US) - although in I think 20 years their fleet would be more powerful than that of the USA.

Their biggest problem is lack of technology.....countries like USA, Russia, UK have progresses a lot in the last 100 years, China only started doing so recently.

The Chinese do everything recently, and tend to surpass everyone in a short period of time, just look at Japan. They take something and make it better.

To say that a place like China lacks technology is in my opinion not quite accurate, where is your stereo made, your TV? Heck, I wouldn't doubt if US military hardware contains Chinese electronic parts.

They have the infrastrucure and it's growing, the US has infrastructure and it's dying, much the US manufacturing capability has been outsourced to China for many years now.
At 10% growth a year, they are advancing quite rapidly and now make some of the highest quality goods in the world.
Crappy stuff? Perhaps they want you to think that,
supplize!!!
