itunes/Quicktime won't load

I have a pc and until recently, my Ipod and itunes worked perfectly but suddenly, when i try to start itunes, i get an error saying that it won't start because i don't have to up-to-date version of Quicktime player. When i go to itunes.com, there is a tab for quicktime but my computer freezes when i click that tab. help?
