More killed by knives than guns in Canada

How many of you have actually tried to get a gun in Canada? Or do you simply go by what everyone else on this forum says, "it is virtually impossible to get a gun in Canada." I know lots of people with guns. If you aren't a criminal, you can get one legally. The truth is, the vast majority of people in Canada don't want one.

America has the highest gun ownership in the major industrialized countries in the world, it also has the highest incidence of gun violence. Seems logical to me. Yet people still state that gun ownership deters crime and decreases murders. Who are you people trying to fool. If that is true then you Americans better keep all your guns cuz if the murder rate is that high there now, I would hate to see what happens if you had no guns. Be people running around with knives stabbing every person they see I guess.

Yup. Why, a few years ago I took a trip to Africa, for example. Hutus, Tutsies, slaughtered them all. The news covered for me, though. Claimed it was civil strife.

I dont see a correlation there. I also dont see where the standard of living has increased substantially in this time frame. If anything, it has gone down due to the steadily tanking US economy. By your logic, crime should be increasing, which stats show it not to be.

if there are 7 million guns in Canada then where are they? does this include the military too?

regarding Winnipeg, a place I have been on two occasions. The problem is natives which I am aware of. We have similar problems here in Toronto believe me. Problem is that it is only criminals that are a problem with gun and I can buy a pistol tomorrow if I want, I have connections and they are not the most savoury types either if you know what I mean.

so how is gun control going to stop crime? or even murders? any rez on the border of US and Canada is a frickin seive and you know it man.

sorry but I want to have a gun and to do it legally and not have to go through more checks than if I was trying to become a cop.

you know people that are citizens in Winnipeg and they have handguns? or automatics? or any other
prohibited weapons that one can buy over the counter in the US? I don't know anyone legally that is. Like I said in a prior post I know one guy that has legal handguns but he is like a internationally ranked sport shooter and he told me there are so many restrictions on him that he wonders if it is worth it anymore.

No neo, not automatic, just handguns. The criminal element will find ways to get guns, no amount of gun control is going to stop that. I lived in the US for 5 years while I finished my post graduate education. I can tell you that there is a far greater gun culture in the US than in Canada. I knew a lot of people who had guns in their cars and a lot more who had them in their homes. This is no surprise to anybody. In Canada, even before the tougher gun legislation, the vast majority of everday people did not have guns in their cars. Not because they couldn't, but becasue they didn't want to. When people are driving down the highway in Canada and somebody flips you off, yeah you get pissed off, you might tailgate them and yell at them,if you are really brave you might get out of your car and confront them, but you don't reach for your gun. Anybody with a temper can tell you how irrational you can get when you are pissed off. If you don't have a gun in your hand, you are far less likely to do something you will regret later. Sure you can use a knife, but it takes a lot more to shove a knife in somebody's chest than it does to put a bullet in their chest, not to mention you can't do it from the next lane over.

Having said all that. I will tell you that I am not pro gun control. I don't like the government telling me what to do with my life. If you think that handguns in your home increases the danger to your family rather than decreases it; then don't have them in your home. But if another person wants to have a gun in their home, then it is their business.

I am not pro gun control, but I don't think it should be like the old west either where everyone walks around with 2 colts at their side. I think it is a person's right to own a gun, but I don't pretend that guns deter crime or decrease the murder rate.
