The other day I was staring out the window and my eyes went blurry, all I could see were these microscopic looking particles, almost like what bacteria looks like under a microscope. There were tons of them, all different shapes and sizes, I thought I might be losing my sight or something..

Anyone know what these are and why this occurs? I do have excellent vision, but am a little concerned.
Thanks~

Gees Mags...I'd be getting myself off to a GP for a check-up if this happens again...I'd be tempted to even go see one after experiencing this even once.

I know that sometimes I see lots of little - as you say - 'particles floating around', like little white specks of wiggling dust or something...but only if I'm really tired, or been rubbing my eyes, or been exposed to bright lights for an extended length of time or been staring at a computer monitor for hours...but I can still see what I'm looking at, its just that these little 'whatevers' look almost 'superimposed' over the top of what I'm looking at...its certain nothing to the extreme this one sounds like.

If your examination comes up clear then I think your eyes may have readjusted like a microscope for a moment & what you saw was a magnification of the particles in the air.

those are called 'floaters' (I forget the medical term), and they're normal. they're just stuff floating across the surface of your eye that aren't large enough to cause irritation.

sounds like eyestrain to me.

I think what you are seeing is commonly referred to as "floaters" loose blood cells in your eye or something like that. If you are worried about it I'd go see an eye doctor... but theres nothing much they can do about them Im afraid.

You can get a surgery known as a vitrectomy to remove the floaters, but its not recommended as there might be worse complications afterwards. I've read there is new laser surgery to remove floaters as well. Though its fairly new and I know little about it.

They're floaters (as everyone has said) and we all have them. And my eyesight occasionally does the same thing (I have TERRIBLE eyesight!) -- it's a muscle spasm, I think. Harmless but weird (kind of like a sudden leg cramp.)

I have them too, annoying at times. My eye doctor told me it is normal unless you begin to see more. If this is the first time you've ever, ever noticed them you should probably get checked out.
