yes! many of them do.
many protestors are fulltime staff of various non-profits or union members etc.
I have heard stories of teachers taking their class to a protest as though this was some kind of educational experience.
there are valid demonstrators but probably in the minority. Consider that many people are studying or working as these events go on.
Protests are designed as 'media events' and I was quite surprised how media savvy some of the non-profit activist organizations are. The media
positions within these oganizations are well paid and they often hire quite talented people. This is necessary due to the importance of media coverage
for their cause.
You must understand too that many organizations exist primarily to do two things, one is fundraise, and the other is to obtain publicity. The
publicity is to convince their supporters that they are accomplishing their objectives.
Of course their are legit organizations out there that do not operate that way and research what is going on before you give money or volunteer your
time.
I can tell you that being left wing is a major part of the so called 'peace movement' and their emphasis is always on the actions of local
government rather than taking a 'global' perspective to peace.
