The U.S is set to spend £1billion on an embassy in Baghdad awarding the appropriate title "the billion dollar bunker." Plans for the hi-tech complex are being kept secret because of the terrorist threat in Iraq, with the exact location not being released until later this year.

"You may as well move the Pentagon to Iraq. It will be amazingly secure but it also flies in the face of claims America is preparing to leave Iraq to be policed and governed by Iraqis.

"Plans for four superbases across the country will only reinforce the view that the US is here to stay for the duration."

The location is speculated to be the Green zone, the safest and most heavily guarded part of Baghdad that protects the Iraqi government and current U.S military command. Construction will feature heavily fortified 15ft blast walls, ground-to-air missiles, bunkers, military personal housing making it more secure than the Pentagon. £1billion is approximately 1,757,898,688.30 U.S American Dollars.

Who cares. The US needs an embassy in iraq, and obviously its going to be attacked a lot. It'd be stupid to make it anything but one of the most secure buildings from terrorist attacks in the world.

I wonder how the Iraqis are going to take this lavishing of money when they are still waiting for the reconstruction money promised for them.

Funny US willing to spend billions in a bunker but still the infra structure in Iraq is worst than pre war.

Am I missing something here by wondering where Iraq's oil money is going?

Would that not be sufficient to rebuild the nation?
