Just curious question. Why do people post mundane earth quake data to these boards? I mean there are numerous places a person can go on the web and view every earthquake on the globe.

I would think this post would be better served if only significant earthquakes are reported such as those 6.0 and up, those near active volcanoes, quake swarms and any that cause significant castastophy.

What is the point in posting a 5.0 since they happen many many times a day quite often?

for all information...including the "mundane"

Personally, I check here often to see what the latest was regardless of magnitude.

Any quake above 4 is generally felt (unless in deep ocean or deep in the ground) so it is always worth a mention.

Keep up the posting...it does get read by many who appreciate the efforts.

As to the why post over 5 ? Well, I'm thinking that if enough info is available a pattern may show. 5 is just a number that worked for me. Not a small one, but potential the size that could indicate a bigger one coming. There is always a pattern of some type.

5 seems about right to me, but something smaller in an unusual location is, I feel, large enough to post about. such as the 4.5 near Rainier nearly two weeks ago.

I hadn't updated the Quake Analysis since July 11th, but here it is through 10/23.

(P.S. I've gone to a pdf format since I don't have my own server anymore and uploading the htm is a pain in the rump.)
