I was recently talking with my father in law and we came up on the subject of BF. We got to talking about the Patterson film and my interest in BF. Well come to find out in most (if not all) states it is illegal to hunt deer from horseback because it covers the scent of humans. Now I am almost certain that they (Patterson and Gimlin) were on horseback when they encountered the BF. You can check the net for game laws by state and see for yourself, but to me this is just another reason to make the film that much more authentic.

Its a thought thats definitely worth consideration. Just think about it, Bigfoot has got to have one heck of a sense of smell. They don't smoke, drink or live in big cities so they can smell a human being from two miles away. That would explain why we only run into them on accident. They can smell us coming.

It would explain allot.

Love and light,

I doesn't matter how keen the sense of smell is, if the bigfoot was upwind of Patterson and Gimlin it wouldn't have smelled them.

Remember they said there was a bad smell and the horses were spooky. That means they were where Bigfoot could not smell them.

I choose to take a wait and see attitude with these big ugly furry fellows. They seem to be smart. They probably have campfire stories of what happened to the indians and about guns. They are probably mostly up in canada now with us only spotting the adventurous teenagers or "vision" questers. Sooner or later someone is going to be in a position to catch one, probably by shooting it, and then there will be a new "iceman" uproar. (squared and cubed)

I don’t need to take a wait and see attitude, I saw one with my own eyes. I’ve told the story here several times so I won’t bother you with it again, but I have no doubt they exist.

I think it would take a big game rifle to take down a mature Bigfoot, not just a hunting rifle that some dear hunters has. You really don’t see that many people out in the woods with a caliber weapon that could take down an elephant. A moose maybe, but even then it would have to be a really good shot to kill a Bigfoot.

Keep in mind this is just my humble opinion here.

the smell of the horses they were riding could have masked the human smell

Maybe they were riding against the win? Heck, the Bigfoot didnt even move that fast when it heard the horses..

And a giant primate really doesnt have _that_ better a nose than we have anyway.

I have no experience with Sassy, but I understand that he makes a pretty strong smell Maybe this is why he can't smell anyone.

You're kidding right? I'd venture to say that a 25 yd shot to the temple or base of the neck with a .22 would drop our big friend, let alone a 30 caliber round. Although I would never condone shooting one.

What gives you the impression that it would take some monster caliber?

I understand that Bigfoot, himself, smells really bad. Like rotten meat or something. Maybe he couldn't smell them over his own stink.

its my understanding that Bigfoot secretes a odor when it feels threated much like a skunk does.
Maybe the Patterson Bigfoot didn't feel threaten so no odor was released

That's correct, remember folks (from what I remember) they smelled "Patty", which means the wind was carrying the sent to them, not theirs to "Patty"...

This is why I belive "Patty" didn't smell them (or the horses), and bolt for parts unknown they were down wind from her...

As I said, it's just my opinion, but the one I saw was huge. My first thought was that it was a tree. Until it turned around and walked away that is.

I don't want one to be shot either but some day someone probably will bag one. Then we'll know if i was wrong or right.

i dont think that it's own sent masked the smell , i cant smell my own sent and i dont think bf would be any diff.

i think he had more curiosity than fear is all, smell is a survival tool it wouldnt work if all you could smell was yourself , imo.

hay, do you smell that????

Have any of you thought that maybe he didn't smell them because they've all admitted to manufacturing the video? The guy in the suit is a friend of theirs. He's admitted to it. Watch the way the guy walks compared to the gait of "bigfoot" in the video. It's exactly the same. What I find funny, is when the people that WERE THERE admit to creating the video, and then people say that they are lying now to just get more attention. Any sense in that? Some people just cant let go...

Well...

If you are talking about good ol'e Bobby H, I can't believe his story too many inconsistency's first he said that Roger made the suit from horse hide, then he said that it was a Phillip Morris suit. So which is it???

And second "they've all admitted to manufacturing the video" not true in my research Patterson ( or Pattersons family for that matter ) nor Gimlin have ever admitted to a hoax ( as a matter of fact Gimlin still appears on some BF conventions )...

So...tell ya what show me proof that "they all" admitted it to be a hoax...

I totally agree with you Jedi, show me the proof that they fabricated the film, also if I saw the way you walked over and over and you were "famous" I could fake your gait to get publicity. He is probably jealous that he didnt get to film the BF.

It's called: Don't post assumptions on a board full off people that have done painstaking research.

I have also yet to see ”group admittance" to a hoax. Also, it has been said many times by people in the industry that even with today's tech it would be very difficult to recreate a suit of this quality that would duplicate muscle contractions and other realistic subject matter as seen in the film.

Well, PATTERSON took it to his grave swearing it was real. The others, however, HAVE come out and said they were in on it the whole time, and only refrained from admitting it out of respect for their friend. Keep in mind now, that Patterson STOLE the video camera that he shot this 'remarkable video' with, and was a known trickster and con-artist. Friends of the family even said that he was at odds with his wife over the issue, though they didn't know why. I don't know, maybe it's just that I have a little trouble believing that a guy, known as a scammer by the local police decides to take a video camera and go shoot bigfoot in the woods. And, what do you know? There he is! Larger than life. And not only did he happen to spot the very thing he went looking for in the first place, but he luckily had a witness and a video camera to prove it all! Lucky him! Yeah,...not the best candidate for the 'pillar of honesty' award. I can't really put much stock in the word of a conman, whether he took it to his grave or not. Of course, he may have just been the victim of a 'boy who cried wolf' scenario, but, I guess we'll never know now will we?

By the way, in reference to a post that was made a little earlier.
"It's called: I don't make posts about ANYTHING without researching the topic first. It is not only pointless, as it would leave me nothing to give a rebuttal with, but also wastes the time of everyone who has also researched the subject. Have a nice day.
