I might be being thick here but no-one has mentioned that its the 'Firefox' from the Clint Eastwood movie of the same name, I hope nobody is trying to pass it off as their own design.

edit; on going back a page I see that I am being thick and mad scientist has said what it was, no offence.

^^^ Thanks but it's not really my work. The plane is fictional Mig-31 from the Clint Eastwood movie Firefox. If you haven't seen it, it's a great movie

For Waynos

For a feasable design my vote would have to go with Planeman's

From a concept standpoint there are alot of interesting ideas floating around out there.

If I was to change anything on that design I would give it a T-tail and mount the engines on the fuselage A-10 style.

T-Tail may give you deep stall problems though.

All the better for teaching the student pilots how to get out of (or avoid) trouble then

But seriously, I never thought about that

just a thought but we may be better of with more of an EATS-1 as in a radar plane. We could use like the airframe of a civilian plane and stick in a bunch of radar and coms and electronics goodies.

You have been paying attention.

Here is my proposal for the EATS-1, It is based on a shortened BAe 146 airframe, retaining the original wing (giving an effective overall lift increase).

It has replaced its four small ALF-502'S with a pair of R-R BR 710's giving an overall thrust increase. Together these give a much improved STOL capability and also the ability to operate from the RN's new carriers, for which the version shown has a tail hook.

The landbased version would delete the tail hook and could also take de-rated engines if the customer required it.

The pair of engines frees up wing space for the carriage of external sensor pods or ASM's like the Harpoon and/or ARM'S like the ALARM on its six pylons as required.

The airframe is suitable for the maritime patrol, AEW&C and anti submarine roles and, due to its transport origin, is also suitable for a tactical transport (with rear loading doors) or tanker version to be built from it too, most cost effective.

Sounds like a plan...

BTW Waynos, Do you make these plane-models yourself... Or do you take them from the internet...??

Why would we want to launch it off of a carrier. other than a super concealed airstrip built into a mountain with abunker and we would need space we wouldn't ever launch it of of a catapult
It is good though

Yes, I do make them myself, I am maybe a little odd as I find building stuff 'accurately' or straight out of the box boring and I like to tweak them a little, as here.

The reason it is carrier capable is (a) to broaden its appeal as Navies have requirements for this type of plane as well as air forces, or (b) because I wanted it to be. You choose

Oh... I dind't know that you build models too... I build them too...
I don't have a very big collection yet but... I just finished a P-47D...

Good thinking waynos.

Kind of an uprated S-3 with a electronic radar?

Bound to be a market for that. What height does the E-2 operate at? Can it reach the altitudes of the E-3?

Yes, thats basically it, a bigger and more capable and flexible S-3/E-2 replacement.

Currently modelling a combat variant two seat Jaguar modified with GR.3 style fin RWR and overwing sidewinders.

how about a box wing aircraft. It could carry more fuel and is more eficient I'll put up a concept soon for that. Also how about something that is capable of going supersonic still. it could also be a version of the fighters with some electronic gear/jammers.
