Atlantis somewhere west of Gibraltar?

When you take into account the legendary size, and the 'true sea beyond', then Atlantis is the Americas. Of course, the major ports of the time will all now be inundated.


Who was there.
About 17kyo a groups made it across the edge of the ice from Europe to north America. These colonised and spread along the East coast. These were Europeans, not Asian. Archeological evidence is being found now

Approx 14 -15kyo, another branch of Humanity came across the edge of the ice pack from the East and started spreading down the West coast of North America.A small rRemnant of these are in the Japanese islands

These folk were all very warlike and battled causing martial advancement.
Although nowhere near what we have today.


The sinking and fire
Approx 13,000 YO there was an air Asteroid blast above far North America Melting chunks of the Ice cap, causing Continent wide forest Fires, adding accelerated melting of the ice, (some floods) followed by a brief (1ky) deepening of the Ice age due to the massive burning, followed by accelerated warming. Some eventually tried to return and conquer the land to the East from whence they came.

The impact and its after effects devastated the existing folk, but also caused an opening corridor in the ice (Old Indian legend of burning Wind) which along with the devastation to the existing rulers of the land, allowed the waves of what we know as the American Indian to colonise the land.

oops - second lot (approx 14.5kyo) came from the West and colonised the West Coast and down into South America. Duh.
