Or maybe Ezekiel was just drunk and watched a couple of fat hummingbirds try to gather food.
hummingbirds, even when they're fat and big, can't take up peoples.
Helicopters ? Interesting idea. Where were they came from and who were the pilots ?

The book of Ezekiel is designed to communicate spiritual truth, not technical plans for assault aircraft.
Terms like wheels [auphanim] can be translated more than one way. The number symbolism communicates the nature of God's intervention in human
history. That same symbolism (minus the wheels) is reprised in Daniel, as well as the Apolcalypse of John.
One of the main disciplines of Qabalah is known as "ma'aseh merkavah" which means the "workings of the chariot" referring to this passage of
Ezekiel's vision.
The symbolism was specifically designed so that outsiders would always invent explanations of their own, without ever tampering with spiritual things
that foolish men were never meant to know.
There are 4 levels of explanation concerning the Merkabah:
The Kabalah which is told in books (try Gershom Scholem's
Major Trends in Jewish Mysticism for starters).
The Kabalah which is spoken only, but never written down.
The Kabalah which is whispered from mouth to ear. It is only shared with the elect.
THe Kabalah which is never spoken at all.
